Hi Guys

A mate of mine asked me today what a set of LC GTR rims, caps and trims might be worth? I answered with a NFI.

Anybody have an idea?

Cheers Mark.

Hi,
the LC and LJ GTR rims are the same as LH, LX and UC 5.50 13 rims, so as a supply and demand thing anyware from $20 to $40 each depending on condition. The caps are available from rare spares if they fit. there were two colours also, red and black.

I think the 4 cyl Commodore was the same too, so that gives a large range of cars that you can source them from.
Be aware that some Torana rims were reversed and used for HR and EH etc.
these will not be suitable for normal LC LJ Toranas.
The rims are all dated in the well of the rim if that is of interest.
If you are looking for a GTR - XU-1 rim this is a completeltly different story, a few more zeros would be needed to buy these, unless you are extremely lucky.

nibless with LC caps and trims,... $800 or even more.

The LC guys cant substitute sprintmasters like the LJ guys as they werent available until sept 1972.

LC caps are red background whereas LJ ones are black background i think too.

mike..i know you are answering a specific question to gtr rims but it reads wrong so i shall add a bit...

the lc lj standard car has another size rim with a different offset.narrower than 5.5..
the 4 cylinder commodore also has a different offset again.

Thanks classicozwreck,
yes I was trying to stick to the point, but as you have raised it, here is a bit more;

4cly including Brabham had 12" diameter rims no more than 4" wide as I recall.
The LC and LJ "S" model used the 4.50 JJ 13,

The LC and LJ GTRs used the 5.50 JJ x 13, ( with nibs - same centres )

The LC and LJ XU-1 used a 5.50 JJ x 13 nibless rim, this was to indicate the thicker centre. ( heavy duty )
( think the very first LC ones may not have used the nibless,)

The SLR used the light 5.50 X 13 ( 3.3 and 2.8 models )
( the edge may have been changed from the JJ profile.)

The sport V8 SLR models used the HD 6.00 x 13 rims with thicker centres arc welded in, as in many heavy duty rims like the one tonners.

And as you pointed out and I had suspected the Commodore 5.50 x 13 has a different offset.

To explain the 6.00" SLR rims further, these had the thicker centres like the XU-1 nibless but in this case they kept the nibs.
( these could be destinguished by the width from the normal LH- LX models and had a plastic wheel cover anyway.)
Aftermarket 6" Torana rims only appear to have the inferrior lightweight centres.

I hope I have all this right, if not feel free to add anything.

To add to Mikes post.

The HB Torana had 3.5" x 12" early in series 1, then they went to 4" x 12" up to TA.

AFAIK the only LC to get nibless rims were the CK (Bathurst 71) batch of XU1s.

Also early LC 6-cyl S & SL models had a 4.5" x 13" rim with the holes arranged in pairs, similar in style to HK rims. These were replaced by the more equally spaced hole wheels.
