Just looking at some WB specs and it said that WB Series II Statesman had a 2.60 diff ratio. Did it still have 15" rims with that ratio?
I imagine it would be a slug but it was classed as the economy option.

I would have thought they had 14s like all the other WBs.

The De Villes had 14" rims and the caprice had 15" rims, though the latter had lower profile tyres (60 series from memory) which i guess made the rolling radius the same. But yep, 2.6 diff ratio standard and still had a fair bit of poke, not what I'd call sluggish.

Well they only had 3 speed autos no lock up clutch,( I've owned one)so even though it was a 2.60 you still had a few hundred rpm slip through the trany. Heavy car with a 308 but was good on the open road. I almost got 30mpg on the highway so cant complain about that!!!!

Thanks for the comments. I've currently got a HZ van with 2.78 ratio with 15" rims (245/60/15).Do mostly around town driving with the occasional freeway use. Was deciding whether to put a 3.08 ratio in it, (with a 2.78 with 14's on my HJ), OR to leave the 15's with a 2.78 and use a 2.60 & 14's on my HJ.
What's everyone's thoughts on this? Thanks again.

Depends what motor your matching it to and what you do with the car- Town/Highway, Towing- nun, some, alot and the weight pulled. The 253 runs better at around 3000-3500rpm but the 308 good at 2500-3000rpm. if you have several cars make a cruiser and a tow car

Only the alloy mags were "15, the steel wheels were "14 Agro. They had a lower profile tyre on the "15 rims so the outside diameter would have been the same as the "14 wheel.
