hi all, i drive a 97 NL fairlane with an i6 engine. done some basic mods, changed the air intake to an ss inductions big mouth & done the exhaust, pacemaker comp headers, high flow cat, 2.5" mandrel bent system with high flow mufflers. on a dynolog dyno she had the following figures
356.9 N.M of torque & 190.6 HP @ the treads.

bought an i6 tickford engine & had it rebuilt. balanced crank, 20 thou oversize pistons, head ported, bigger valves / springs, etc., bigger tighe cam. had a sniper chip installed and the engine tuned.
she now has 403.1 N.M of torque & 213.4 HP @ the treads.

a slight increase to an engine that was unopened. after it costing $7500, i thought it would have had more torque / horsepower.

this new engine is hard to start both hot & cold. it also blows an excessive ammount of blue smoke, both hot & cold engine, & it stinks. it pretty much the same as an old car with buggered rings.
the engine has almost done 2000ks since the rebuild. from my understanding, its the rings or the valve stem seals causing this. do the rings or stem seals have to be replaced or will the smoke disappear as the engine gets more ks on the clock??

after the ammount that has been spent on it, i didnt expect to have problems with it so early.

any advice / opinions greatly appreciated.

It is normal for rings to not seal against the bore correctly until they are bedded in which might take a couple more thousand KM.

Have you spoken to the rebuilder about these issues?

have spoken to engine builder as well as many mechanics and they have all said that the rings should have bedded in within 500ks. so what youre saying jim5.0 is to continue to drive around with blue smoke pouring out the exhaust, hoping that the rings will bed in??
do cars not get defected for blowing smoke these days?

No I mis read and hought that it was only a bit of smoke which would still be excessive for a new engine. I bought a reco 179 years ago and it took a fair while (certainly a lot more than 500km) for it to stop smoking.

Why is your engine builder not offering to repair what he has built? Do you have a warranty on the engine?

engine builder is going to pull the engine down and sort it. its a pain in the a$#e having to drive 600ks to get it done tho.
