Hi all,
for those with late 72 and 1973 XU-1's this book in its first couple of print runs since 1984 is in need of the following admendments;

late 72 and all of 1973 XU-1's and 1974 GTR's do not have their Vin information included.

Instead of 150 1973 XU-1's there were over 800.

There were three August 73 model XU-1's;

1. abt 4th to 9th models without Bathurst specs. prior to change over engine.

2. abt 4th to 9th and 14th to 22nd with Bathurst specs, as quoted in the Holden parts books.

3. 23rd August on engine listed XU-1's which by omission leaves out above cars included in the official Holden Parts books.

Not all Bathurst 73 XU-1 engines were in a single batch 16 G 3 as there are at least two seperate cast batches and perhaps more.

There were 3 or 4 different NP Blocks ( not engines ) as they were from different sources within Holden and they had to cater for different XU-1 models, then there was the mid 1974 XU-1 engine block which was a further development of the Aug 73 engines.

There will be more, so if you are planning to restore a 1973 XU-1 be aware that there are several models, both before and after Aug 1973.

Mike

Thanks for the encouragement,
I am glad some appreciates the considerable work I and others have done on this topic in the last 4 years, as there are plenty of missinformed knockers.
I am actually glad you pasted it on GMH Torana as I cannot comment on that site due to a password foul up.
I have also had my build sheet put on that forum along with one of the last ones, and a comparison of the two reveals that there is no difference in specification on any of the componets, between my 16th of August non 150 list XU-1 and the 7th last 10th September produced one on the 150 list, this and the 72 sheet in the blue book also reveals that two carbie sets are available right from Aug 72 right through to the end of production in 1973, though this is missed in the parts books they have one superseeding the other which is clearly wrong.
I have thought of starting a thread of all the superseeded and mistakes in the parts book as there are a few!
Must have a look on the other site for their comments,
Mike

Hi mike there are a few guys on the torana site that are very smart guys they like yourself and have done countless years of research into the 73 xu1 and come to the same conclusion as you there is definatly more than 150 bathurst xu1's made no doubt

why dont you send a pm to one of the mods on the torana site and get your user name and password sorted out so your thoughts can be heard you will be suprised what other guys have also found on the 73 xu1
