I need to replace the satin chrome surround on my VZ auto shifter. But I have no idea how it all comes apart. I think I need to get the button off first and then I will be able to undo the screws that hold in the chrome surround.
But how do you get the button out??
Thanks

If they are like the VT they have two pins one for the button and one for the outer, below the shifter top plate. You need to remove the console to get to them.
Let me know how you go as my Manual shift is making some vibration on harsh acceleration, which I would like to check, but have not pulled a VZ console apart yet.
Maybe we could pull our cars apart oat the show and shine at the nationals. I fitted a windscreen to my car during the show and shine at the 1988 ASMF nationals in Wagga Wagga.

Thanks Warren, I just might have to take you up on that offer. I was hoping to have the new part fitted for the show, but it will not be if i can not work out how to change the little sucker. http://forums.justcommod...enter-console-vy-vz.htmlHave a look at that on how to remove the console. Just tells me nothing about removing the shifter knob.

Ok changed the little sucker. What a pain in the bum.
There are 2 locking tabs that stop the button from coming out. (You can see the holes for this in the new one)
In the end I stuck a butter knife down each side so that the tabs could not grip any more and allowed the button to come out. Tips of the butter knives had to be bent slightly to clear the locking tab.
But got the button out and then there is 2 screws that hold the satin chrome handle in, simple job to whip them out and put the new one is.
