Hi guys this is not a fake post or crappola like that. I have stumbled across a 818 shell hk warrick yellow. It is a bare shell only.. no doors etc etc.. needs tunnel as its been butchered and flared rears. Id say it was a drag car at a stage. I want a honest value estimation as i really dont want to dissapoint in my offer..

A great starting point for a street car. That is how I found my Warwick Yellow GTS327. Many will say it's worth nothing, others would pay $20k just for the tags. If the body is repairable, and the tags are original to it, it'd have to be worth at least $10k. To give you an idea, I have a complete Picardy Red 327 (August build Brisbane car), that is a rolling car with most bits. Non original engine but still a GTS327 engine from an early Pagewood car. It's quarters need fixing (rolled heavily for tyre clearance) and had some minor tunnel hammering that needs fixing (due to toploader conversion). I'd sell it for $75k tomorrow to the right buyer. That might give you an idea for a starting point.

Hi Nick
Hope you are well.

Pricing a car like that is a bit difficult in this market.

Probably best would be trying to get a bit of feedback from the owner of what he thinks.

On another point, hoping you end up with it, it could end up just as valuabe in it's current racing guise. Fair dinkum 818 racecars are probably the rarest of all Aussie racing Musclecars. When was the last time any of us has actually seen one?

...Doesn't have to be a production racing car take to a place of respect and importance in HK ranks. An old Drag Racer or Speedway Car being shown around the traps would create huge interest!

Byron, re your car.... If you happen to restore it back to its former speedway racing spec it would most certainly be the only one.

Cars like both of these in my humble opinion are much more important (and possibly valuable) as racecars if their provenance is good...even if they weren't well known cars in their day.

Food for thought.

Cheers
Nick.
P.S. ...Bloody Frank. Hi Mate.

Here here. I agree Silverfox. All of the above discussion about monaros and the microscopic details does get a bit boring. While its all great that you guys are that into it and passionate about preservation, it would also be great to see a monaro speedway or similar racecar. I went to the monaro nationals in ballarat and there was some amazing cars there but after a while its just a game of fine detail one-upmanship. If there had've been a monaro speedway car there that would be the one id remember!

Well Frank, we'll have to agree to disagree - we all have opinions. Hope your back is OK. PS, I knocked back $65k from it from a serious buyer before I went to Europe. He bought a complete unrestored car for almost twice that. In the end it was a 50/50 decision I suppose. Spend $50k restoring mine, or buy one ready to use albeit needing some maintenance.
So who's the fool now? It sure aint me!

yep, trick is too always buy smarter and good luck to all involved. easy to ask any money, getting it is a very different story as has been discussed many times before, and then once the newly learned experts read books, surf the net, look at wikipedia and visit a car show or a nationals, all of a sudden some cars get valued more than others due to a paint run in the engine bay etc, but then again each to their own, i guess i'm just a realist actually.
PS i know how far $50k goes on a nut and bolt resto, and it aint that far, im dealing with them everyday, but no fool like an old fool is the classic saying isnt it?
PSS HI NICK!! dave sends his regards to you as well

Agree. A car is worth what someone will bay, and also what someone will sell for. This won't sell for less than i'm asking, or it can stay where it is. I only originally bought it to copy when I restored the Warwick yellow car, but plans have changed for it and it will no longer be that sort of resto, it'll be a big blocked street car. $50k is doing heaps yourself. A chequebook resto would cost at least twice that figure.

What we find funny, some people are dead serious.Im with you we wreck but hey, things happen and someone may have very well offered this kind of coin.
At the end of the day its up to the buyer to pay what he wants to but i kinda feel sorry for them.
I remember, not all that long ago,a HK 327 warwick yellow.all original, from country NSW being offered to me for 6K.Now that car would sell for god knows how much now.
I just wished they didnt have to fork out a small fortune just to get there arse in a Munro.
Oh well....
