I want to buy a two tone VH SLE blue over silver. Now, I've had an SLE two tone before which had two paint codes. One for the base and the other for TOP. This particular car is blue over silver yet it only has one paint code which is 2j011-D. Does that mean it isn't an original shadow tone? Numbers: Model- VH8VX69-381 Trim- 4005- 29y Paint- 2j011-d Eng-L36 Trans-M40 AXL- GU7
Any help would be appreciated.

The combination number on the trim line tells you it is a shadowtone car - 4005 which is Indigo over Mercury Silver
2J011 is Mercury Silver Met. and its single tone comb. no is 1990
The earlier body plates have a Top section under Paint it was changed to Built with the date added which is why yours doesn't have the other paint code added.
BTW 29Y is Indigo Velour L36 is 253 M40 Trimatic and GU7 2.6 diff Mick can shed some light on what's in a 381 pack

The later type plates after Jan '82 generally only show the Mercury code, which is why the combo number is so important on a shadowtone. Only 1 that I have seen has both on the later plate, seperated by a /.
GU7 is a 2.78:1 diff
29Y is single tone (all dark blue) velour. There were 2 blue interior colour combos in VH SL/E - the single tone blue here (29), and shadowtone blue (27) - it had lighter blue & darker blue contrast sections. Both were available in velour (Y) and Leather (V) seat facings.
381 is the option pack - 3 meaning SL/E trim level, 8 meaning V8 (this engin notation is only for VH - it changed again in VK). 381 pack has: L36 - 4.2L V8 M40 - trimatic auto AS9 - Rear headrests AU3 - Central locking GU7 - 2.78:1 diff ratio N10 - dual exhaust |
