A mate at work looked at a HG Belmont ute. He says it is genuine 186 with Sagninaw 4 speed and has bucket seats. Owner only wanted $2k. I this a rare car?

he passed it up because he said it was full of bog, but I didnt think it was a bad price for a saginaw car. That is if it is a factory saginaw.

Of course it is rare. Regardless of the bog content if its the real deal its worth it. You could wreck it out for more than that.

if it is a saginaw & not opel 4spd car? definitely worthy th dollars, no matter how rusty. just goes ta show how much people want for a bargain i guess. im sure SS would just hoard it with his collection till china make their alternative an they worth nothin aye??

If you ordered a 4spd in a HK-HG commercial regardless of engine you got a Saginaw (where available eg only auto behind 5 litre HG until 308 replaced 307) ie there was no Opel 4spd HK-HG commercials. Not "rare", but not common today either. Worth having for parts.

Greetings, The HG features book says that there is no such car. No such thing as a 6 cylinder 4-speed in HG commercial as the M22 transmission was not released in this model. Is the 186 original or is the Saginaw original? Might be a factory V8 4-speed commercial that has had the engine replaced with a 186.
look out, the guru is coming through...

Hmmm interesting.

I am yet to look at the car because it is in the country. But I plan on having a look next time I am traveling.

So I will let you all know what I find out.

Git is on the money as far as most of HG is concerned. The 8/70 HG ordering procedure I have says the same thing, ie no 4spd manual available on HG commercials with 6cyl. It also specifically states option M21 was not available on 6cyl. It doesn't mean one wasn't built, just it was not a run of the mill order. Like a 307 manual HT, not orderable but some were built especially early in the series. As above though it is more likely to have originally been a V8 4spd.
