Yep the tailgate became an option when the XC van was introduced and I believe it disappeared sometime during the very long XF model run or maybe with the XG as I can't remember ever seeing an XH van with anything but barn doors. |

thanks, so any XC panelvan could have tailgates not just Sundowners.

Spot on they were standard on Sundowners but optional on the rest of the vans. I imagine it would have been more costly to produce the unique to van barn doors than the tailgate which would have been shared with the ute less the tonneau hooks and a unique to van upper tailgate.
