Hi All A newby here . Is it possible to tell what size the motor is by the engine number . AL4KUJ58861K Would appreciate any help . Cheers

I don't know whether it is possible but if you have a Windsor it's easy as the blocks a visibly different however if it's a Cleveland then the easiest way to tell is by removing a spark plug and feeding some coat hanger wire into the hole.
Get the piston to TDC and start feeding wire in as you turn the engine. When you get to BDC if the difference is about 3" then you have a 302 if it's about 3.5" then you have a 351.
That method is probably best as you could be passing up an original 302 that has been stroked to 351 or worse buying a 351 that has been fitted with 302 internals if you simply go by the engine number. |

If it's a cleveland with those numbers its most likely a 351 as the 302 was only made in australia. I'm no expert but that looks like a USA stamping.

Hi Paul The motor was originally in an F100 and I'm told that the A stands for America and the L for the state it was built in . It is completely stock and if they didnt build 302s in the States then I have a 51 . Cool Thanks for the help

Hi Guys Did the wire test last night and came up with a stroke of 3.5 inches . A 351 it is . Thanks

AL4K is a 4X4 F100. UJ is the year and month may 1978 could be.

Have a look at the sump as F100 has a different one to a falcon. The falcon one has the lower part at the front and the F100 it's at the rear.

Hi guys, looking for some urgent info. I am after a 351C and this guy has told me he is not sure if it is a 302C or a 351C, I am not sure if I can measure the stroke when I get there. The guy has sent me the following number on the engine -
JG34PR 462 34K
Is it possible to tell by those numbers?

No It's not possible. Unless you have the compliance plate that came with the car. Can tell you it's out of a fairmont, october 1974. You'll either have to do the wire trick or take the sump off and see what's stamped on the crank.

No worries mate. There is another way but it's not a sure thing. If the motor is all original what colour are the rocker covers and is it a 2 or 4 barrel manifold?
