Just looking at the 1964 No falcons ? why 170ci not good enought ?
But one Zephyr MK3 she came 4th
SV1 Valiant 6th
EH premier 11th
That was D class

C class
123456 Cortina
7th a EH 179
looks like only 1 EH 179/ and only 1 EH premier ? auto ?/ and 1 EH S4 raced at Bathurst 1964

1965 Bathurst
The Cortina GT 500 was the wepon.
21st came the Valiant
22ed a HD holden X2 and 38th

1966 Bathurst
10th VC V8 auto Valiant
11th VC V8 auto Valiant
19th HD holden X2
Still no falcons.

1967 Bathurst
38th a HD holden X2
There was the XR with an auto that came 21st i don't know but it must be a 289 V8 ?
The Alfa came 3rd and 4th must of been a not bad car.

I don't remember seeing these races as i was to young but if any wants to rattle on about them i am all ears.

I think that the results speak for themselves, the XK-XP Falcon were not good race cars in stock form, a bit like FB-EJ Holdens.

The 170/200 Falcons just weren't as quick as the 179/186 Holdens or the 225 Valiants of the day.

Besides, the Cortina was the Ford factory's weapon of choice, so that's what they spent their time developing.

Yes, the XR auto was a 289 V8.

The Alfa Romeo GTV was a quick car. As a matter of fact I remember all the experts predicting that it would beat the XR GT, because it wouldn't last, V8s supposedly never went the distance !! The XR proved them wrong.

I can understand the "V8s won't last the distance" mentality to some
extent.

Look at the brakes(or lack!) on some of 'em.
Attn camry drivers. The accelerator is the skinny pedal on the right.

The XR GT was the first car at Bathurst to combine serious V8 grunt, with disc brakes & a relatively modern chassis. All previous V8 attempts had drum brakes in otherwise fairly ancient chassis, e.g. the Studebaker & Dodge Phoenix.

The silly thing is they said the same about the 327 in 68, after the dominance of the XR the year before.

Looks like Honda corner at Amaroo?

You only have to be in front at the end of the race.

That was a very hard corner to master, I had lots of trouble getting it right in my LX.
