I think GMH has given up on selling commodores.
Reading the newspapers there is page after page in the car sections advertising mazda. nissan, hyundai, toyota, etc. but haven't seen a commodore ad in print or on tv for ages.
Is this part of their plan to reduce demand so the cessation of manufacture can be justified. be hard to justify shutting down a thriving business.
I note they are going to be pushing Opels.
Given the dismal failure of Opel to inspire any real interest and the withdrawal of the last attempt to introduce them I suspect GMH 's days in Australia coul be numbered.
Of course they could and most likely will bring in some of the US muscle cars but can they survive on that?

why spend money if theyre leaving anyway, the service departments might be doing ok but a thriving business selling its locally produced product doesnt shut manufacturing and focus solely on imports.

I figure most of the smaller dealers will drop off.

Opels sold under Holden badges did well (Astra, Barina etc), just like cars that Holden sourced from Suzuki, Isuzu, and even Daewoo (now GM Korea). The TS Astra is the perfect example of an Opel that sold very well under the Holden badge.

Opel in Australia as a standalone brand failed because of brand awareness - GM realised that mistake, which is why the Holden name will continue past 2017 (and also why Vauxhall has continued in the UK for 37 years since ceased to make their own cars, and simply rebadged Opels & other GM sourced cars).

I don't watch a lot of TV, and most of what I watch I record on a HDD/DVD and skip the ads, but since coming home after a 2 week holiday and watching maybe 4 shows, I've seen several ads for the Commodore Storm limited edition, and over the past few months the VF has had quite a lot of TV & print media exposure with the "Think Holden" campaign.

If you want to target something that hasn't been plugged - look no further than the Falcon. The woeful Territory ads from a couple of years back (towing a trailer load of ice) were the closest we've seen to anything about an Aussie Ford - instead we're bombarded with young bimbo girls who can't speak properly, crapping on about how they love their dealership, oh, and the car they bought.

Ford had a good opportunity to plug the LPi and Ecoboost Falcons when they were launched nearly 3 years ago. The demo LPi model that I had for a few days was plastered with stickers saying "cheaper at the pump than a corolla" but they never put that into an ad. The Ecoboost did have an ad made (with the 2 cane toads), but it's only ever been seen on youtube & via spam email.
Cheers,

Mick

Frod adds are all about "connectivity" and how good their POS is as
a mobile phone/ipad docking station/travelling repository of crap music.

Nary a word about the actual automotive side of things.

checked the weekend papers, ford had a couple of ads for the new focus and fiesta, nothing for falcon, and i think territory got a mention and all the holden dealer who advertised could only manage some used cars. not a single ad for the holden and i would say we get different ads on tv in the west because they certainly didnt show over here.
Opel may have sold well under different names, they did not sell as opel.
