Gents, am I right in thinking the big nut master cylinder of a HK/T/G will fit my GTR, but HQ will not?

Not necessarily, it depends on when your LC was built.

Many regular Torana production items paralleled those of the bigger Holdens.

LC Torana 6-cyl cars up to mid 1971 (HQ intro) had the same big nut m/cyl as HK/HT/HG.

Later LCs (mid 1971 onwards) & then LJ, LH & early LX had the HQ/HJ style m/cyl.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

Thanks Dr Terry

Whether it turns out to be clever or not, I bought an HQ master cylinder at good price, should be able to sell again if needed. I haven't seem the car for a few years (stored elsewhere), so I don't know if it will fit.

Is it just a matter of bolt holes lining up to bolt it to the brake booster, or is there more to it - such as different sized brake lines?

My Torana is Jul 71. It has the Opel box and had the 173s motor. I don't think there would have been many of them - I think Opel was meant to have been replaced by the Aussie four-speed before the 173s motor was introduced.

I can't recall exactly but I thought the Opel box continued until around July '71 or thereabouts, whereas 173 engines were used in LC and HG from approx. the start of HQ enginproduction which is a little earlier in 1971. Dr Terry will probably have a far better idea though!
