Hi Guys.
Many know me as a 100% Holden nut. But this is not the case. ATM I am in need of some expert Ford help.
I'm currently doing some research on 60s & 70s Aust Ford engine availability.
AFAIK, when the XW/ZC was first released the only 351 V8 available was the T code 351 Windsor, which was standard on the GT & optional on the Fairlanes, but not on other Falcons, Futuras or Fairmonts.
In early 1970 when the 351 Cleveland replaced the 351 Windsor, it was the T code 4V version right ?
Was this engine available in the ZC Fairlane or did they continue to use stockpiled 351 Windsors. A 3rd thought is that they used the K code 351-2V Cleveland in late ZCs, which was a regular option for non-GTs in the XY/ZD range.
Does anybody have any ideas, or better still some documentary evidence of either theory.

Hi Terry, Yep you are spot on re the XW/ZC. The GT's had the 290Hp 351W and it was an option on the Fairlane. I don't think that any ZC's received a Cleveland. Along with the 351W they received the radiator support with a bigger hole for the larger 351 radiator and the larger fuel line which ran along the inside edge of the sill instead of down the trans tunnel. Unfortunately I am guilty of sending two of those to the tip (both rusty as and one donated body parts to my good ZC).
ZD 351's were the 2V version of the Cleveland which is why the ZC 351 is kinda known as a forgotten muscle car.
Most if not all XY/ZD 302's still had the 302W.

Good info Jim5.0, but it doesn't quite answer my query.
Were late ZC 351 V8s:-
A. 351-4V T-code Clevo as per late XW GT. B. Leftover 351Ws as per early ZC 351 C. 351-2V K-code Clevo as per ZD 351.
You make it sound like you think it was option B.
BTW, I'm sure all XY/ZD 302s were 302Ws, but what were late ZC 351s ?

The ZC Fairlane 351 were all Windsor but for the last month of the ZC as they ran out of the stock pile of 351W at that point.
XY/ZD were all 302W but for some XY 1972 wagons utes and p vans that were 302 Clevelands as just of the top of my head XA wagon came about only in Apr 1972 then the ute p van weer about Sep 72.
ZD Fairlane had 351 Clevelands with 2V heads and 2BBL carby as was the same with anything that was not a GT up to the last XB 351.

P5 LTD got 4bbl but only 2V heads as did XB GT and mid 1972 XA GT with auto trans.
Aussie made 302C from Sep 1971 and Aussie made 351C from Dec 73 or Jan 1974.
The 2V head 351C is fully imported engine with 'power by ford' on the rocker covers up to about Dec 1973.
The Aussie made 351 only has the 'ford' on the rocker covers.

OK, so you're saying that all ZC 351 were Windsors only & that you couldn't get any ZC 351 in their last month of production.
I have the release dates as March 72 for XA sedans & wagons (press release date 24/2/72) & July 72 for utes & vans, with the hardtop on sale in Aug 1972. So I guess that it's possible to see Clevos in very late XY utes & van, but not wagons, surely.
BTW, I well remember the 72 year model XY utes & vans with high-back seats & a steering lock to comply with the new ADRs, but were were there any XY sedans or wagons made like this ? Were there any XY sedans or wagons actually built & complianced in 1972 ?

You did get a 351 Cleveland in the last month they say as they ran out of 351W but it was the same 351 2V as in the ZD that I had the debate on a ford forum with.
I have never seen a XY wagon or sedan with XA seats or steering lock, only the XY ute's and XY 4X4 ute.
I would think that they were building XY sedan and wagon in Jan Feb 1972. Did that ADR come out in Jan 1972.

I have never seen a 4 speed ZC Fairlane and I am sure not many would of been made. The ZC did not handle very well and I am sure that with a 351 4 speed such could end up getting out of control easily. boy I still remember trying to hang on to a ZD 351 that I took for a good test drive.
HQ Statesman could be had with 308 and 4 speed manual a abo working for the government had that one and I have only seen that one. They also had 253 and 202 in the HQ Statesman and I have seen one 253 auto and one 202 auto.

I had a book called something like "Cars - Nothing but Cars 1969" which was basically factory brochures in a book.
It did mention the 4 speed as an option on the ZC Fairlane 500.
Might have to dig it up and see if it included a 4 speed 351 if I still have it that is.
