Can someone please define "Electronic Ignition". Is it just an electronic dizzy or is there other stuff involved. I have just bought an electronic dizzy on ebay which is supposed to be "modified". But there is also a number of electronic dizzy's for sale which have the H.V coil built into the top of them. Can anyone recommend a good setup for a 253?

Electronic ignition usually refers to a "transistor" controlled ignition as compared with a conventional mechanically controlled (eg points) ignition. Basically, the electronic dizzy can typically have a magnetic pickup (reluctor, hall effect et

Sorry,

The sentance near the bottom should read:
"...you have got should NOT give much of a noticable difference from a fully blown ignition system."

Cheers Paul, now I've got an understanding of whats goin on. Do you recommend that I go for the typical leads, spark plugs and coil(I think it's a GT40r) or should I go for something a flash?

You might consider using stainless steel spiral wound low resistance spark plug leads. I would recommend using these if you are not already doing so. 8mm should be fine. Prices vary a bit so shop around. These will have minimal magnetic interference, and

Hi Guys.

The GT40R Bosch coil is a good coil, but it is designed for older cars with points & a ballast resistor system.

For the HEI electronic system you should be using the original Holden/Bosch coil or the more modern T-Type Bosch repla

Howdy,

Certainly true Dr Terry. I should clarify some of my earlier comments. The male-post "true" HEI coils are indeed a good way to go. I've also found that the Accel coil will work well with 12V also, even though it is probably intended

Yeah I have a fairly new dead transformer coil. Came with my EFI motor. Bosch plugs are not too reliable though.
