What sort of Diff was in the VK V8's? Were they a strong and are they known for having problems? I'm considering it for a conversion into a HK, Cheers.

Hi Guys.


To my knowledge all VK V8 cars use the large Holden Salisbury (10-bolt).These diffs are Holden's (their own manufacture)biggest & strongest, but don't stand up to serious punishment & are not as strong as the B-W.

Use a VL instead of a VK. The VL is a 4 pinion BW and if you use the standard 6 cylinder has a ratio of 3.45. The width is slightly narrower than the HK/T/G which means you can fit wider tyres on the rear. My son has 245s fitted with plenty of room.

Yes Terry, you're right about the V8 retaining the sals - and the 6s going to the BW.


The best bet is a VL diff as noted above, as even in 2 pinion form (stock VL 6) they are quite robust, while still being rather cheap & plentiful.

A guy is advertising a BW out of a V8 VK, was it a BW in the VL or has he made a total mistake?
