I'm currently doing a bit of research on Sandmans, and their identification. If anyone out there has one, or has ID off one or has a mate with one I'm currently chasing this data. If you are interested, and are willing to send me the ID plate data please do so to holden(att)networksmm(dott)com(dott)au - just replace the brackets and text with the appropriate figures. I'm particularly interested in HQ Sandman data, HJ-HZ Kingswood Sandman data and data off any Sandman with the XU3 option. Photos of ID plates are better if possible, but the data typed is just fine. Please make sure you include ALL of the ID plate data, including vehicle GVM and ADR's listed. What I am trying to do is to come up with a 'foolproof' method of IDing most Sandmans. To date I have ID off 4 x HQ Sandmans, 3 x HJ Sandmans, 1 x HZ Sandman and 2 x suspected Sandmans (1xHJ, 1xHX). Of the known Sandmans all are Belmont bar one of the HJ's.

Some of it is not there too, or is wrong. For example, HQ-HX Kingswood Sandmans, HQ diff ratio codes. The site contains excellent info, but there is more that can be presented, and that is what I'm trying to achieve. I'll pass it all on when finished to t

You can tell a Sandman via full roof lining and tyre option. eg- my HZ Van has ER70H14.
Seating is only for 2 on the plate
XU3 option- Special Vehical Package- Sandman 10cwt.
Having owning one for 20 odd years I found that the Sandman site was very goo

The site is good, but as I said not ALL info is presented. There is a lot of obscure stuff. You'll see when i'm finished.

HX and HZ Kingswood vans also had full hoodlinings and were normally 2 seaters. XU3 is the 14.5cwt option, XX7 is the 10cwt, bu

I'd be interested to hear the rest of the info you have found and any changes I can make to the site to make it more accurate. Whats on there is pretty much all I could find at the time and as you are well aware they aren't the easiest model to get info o

Daniel, you are right. They are mongrel things to chase data on. One thing I noticed is that in the early HJ parts catalogue, the HJ Kingswood ute Sandman is quite clearly proven. However it disappears from the later version of the catalogue. I've got pho
