Hi guys own a hz ute with a warm 308 in it just have a prob when I turn the lights on or run a few accessories in the car my ampmeter or voltmeter ( The One In The GTS dash ) the needle goes right down to low and the light begins to glow happens quicker when driving. Just wondering is this an alternator prob or a battery prob the battery I have is a little on the small side and I have a feeling the alternator is a 35 amp. I guess I need to know do i get a new alternator for 145 bucks or do i just get a new battery or both Thanks

If its a bosh altinator simply unscrew the 2 screws on the little black box on the back and lift out carefully as there is a wire attached and check the brushes. If there worn a new set of brushes and regulator are about $45 from most auto parts, not muc

Hi Dan,

To work out if your alternator is big enough to do the job (and it sounds like yours isn't) do this:

What size alternator do you need for your car? It is relatively easy to work out.

Add up the wattage of all the lights you will

I had the same problem in my HJ ute. Got a VP alternator and bolted it straight on. The only modification was the lower bolt on the alternator. It didnt have a thread so I used a nut and a bolt. No problems in 2 years and have 90 amps output.
