G'day,
Popped in to get an idea of what I'm up against.
I noticed the transmission was behaving very much like it was low on fluid (but has never leaked). Got home and lifted the bonnet to check it and found that horrible "oil/water" mix coming out the radiator overflow (and I mean 'coming out'!).
The transmission is all but out of fluid (and I know the smell - it's not engine oil). I obviously have a cracked/broken/stuffed transmission cooler inside the radiator (I think it's a reasonable bet, anyway).
The fluid that remains in the Trannsmission seems to be clean (i.e. no water). Can anyone tell me what I'm looking at to get this sorted out?
I used to do all my repairs etc myself, but I'm disabled now, so I need to know what it's going to take (it's Sunday and there's no-one to call!!).
Is it a simple matter of a new radiator and coolant system flush?? (and topping up the transmission fluid of course)??
EA Series II (4 speed elect tramsmission) - 3.9L

Your cheapest option is to put a transmission cooler in front of the radiator and route the lines to it. Although new radiators aren't dear. I'm guessing you've never replaced the radiatoor before?
Flush the system but don't use the trans cooler in the

I've replacement heaps of radiators in years gone by, but nothing more recent than say, the '70's. (I'm disabled now and can't do any of the work I used to do years ago).

just putting an external cooler wont fix the leak it obviously has.
the pressure in the tranny lines is much higher than the radiator so thats why there is no water in the tranny but all the oil in the radiator.
take that pressure away and the radiator

just flush out the transmission part of the radiator and blank off the tranny outlet and inlet, this way you don't have to woory about the leak if you use an additional transmission cooler.
