Not being a real diff man I was wondering about the pinion gear in the diff, are they all the same or are they cut to suite a certain ratio? The reason for the question is I would like to change the crownwheel in a VL diff to a 3.9 from a 4 cylinder commodore. Also if I remember the early commodore have the same internals as the Banjo's if this is true will a sunbird crownwheel fit? I think they were about 4.1. Iam after better pick up at the speedway in a commodore with 202 12 port and 4spd M20. Any suggestions, pointers or comments welcome. Thanks for looking. :-) |

Ok the VL commodore has a borg Warner diff. The earlier Commodores had Holden diffs. You could go one of two ways, either get lower gears for the VL diff out of a Pintara or later 4 cyl Cortina or anything else that used the BW 78 series diff.

The 4cyl banjo and little salisbury ratio is 3.9:1. The crownwheel and pinion are the same between these two diff styles. Do as Jim says and fit a complete VC or VH 4cyl diff. The reason you need to use the 6cyl axles and brakes is the 4cyl Commodore runs |

Not too many wreckers will actually wreck these anymore unless they get them for free, and even then they'll normally only sell the Starfire and crush the rest. You may find a whole car for $50. If not, try the Commodore shop in Newcastle. Freight everyw |
