Hi all
I've got a mate who owns an HQ with a newly built 202. BAsic specs are +60 pistons, mild cam ,pacemaker extractors. Everything else including cooling system is standard. I am thinking of buying the car to use in my work as a courier in central Sydney. As you can imagine this work involves idling in traffic at times for ages on really hot days ( simliar to taxi work).
Just wanted to know if some of you guys who have been around a while such as Dr Terry can advise as to weather the thinner bores are likely to give me a potential problem under these conditions.
I hope some of you don't think this is a stupid question, but most people talk about how +60 engines perform in high performance situations rather than idling for ages.
I know I could beef up the cooling system, but before I buy I just want to know if this is likely to be necessary.I may not go there if it is
Thanks for any advice
Alex

I would have thought it is a bit large to use as a courier, only about 20 mpg and not very manouverable around town

Hi Guys.
johnperth is correct, an HQ 202 with cam & extractors is not really Sydney traffic material, I doubt that you get much better than 16-18 mpg.
To answer you question re: the 60 thou overbore, I've never had this alone cause any extra overhea |
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

Isuppose it could be a tonner or van or ute which would make it a bit more practical as a courier.

Thanks for the replys guys. It is a Panel Van. I know what you mean about fuel consumption, but the cost to buy this over a similar newer van means a saving of $15,000- $20,000. That is a fair bit of Optimax. The other angle is that it helps my business

Have a similar set up in my Hq Prem. What I did do was put a v8 radiator in it and flexi fan and shroud. All you have to do is buy a redline water neck ( from autobarn ) and spin it so it faces to the laft and make a short metal pipe for the bottom.( have

HZ V8 radiator bolts straight in except for using wider bolts and you don't need to change thermo.

You don't need to stuff around with adapter necks and the like to fit a 3-core radiator to a Holden 6cyl. The 3-core was standard fitment to 6cyl HZ taxis and Prems with air, plus others. You can buy these radiators brand new from Natrad or Aussie desert |

I will agree with Dr Terry, most holden reds cope with 60 thou and dont get hot. Thermo fans and a good radiator are a cheap way to keep the temp down in the city and an early opening thermostat. It depens what your budget allows for? and how much the tax
