Hi all,

I have a question to ask all those car salesmen out there.. I am looking at buying a 2003 Holden Vectra very soon and I want to know how much to expect off the price listed in the dealership.
The car will be used with preferably 20000 km on the clock. I am looking at around 23-25000. If a car is advertised at 24990 how much could i expect to get the car for if I paid cash? Is it normal these days to make an offer? What is everybody’s suggestions out there.. Especially those who have had to do this in the past?

Cheers

In my experience, cars on the yard have lots of 'fat' in them. If they are selling it for $24,990 they probably paid $16,000, possibly a little more if it was traded and had to go higher to get the sale. I traded a 2000 model VS S-pack ute in in 2003 on a

All good advice there Byron.

Just to add to it, also look for one that has the rego due soon...another bargaining point.

I bought a VN Wagon many years ago that was advertised for $15,990. It was 3 days before the end of the month and it only had 6

I've found the lease buyout figures to not be that generous. I had a VX supercharged S commodore leased through my employer (not novated) and the buyout figure after 3 years was the same as dealers were selling them for.

Yeah guys, no leasing, just straigh cash. If for a car with a yard price of $25000, do you think $21K cash would be unreasonable? Will most let me walk... will they try and barter their price a bit higher, remember this is a holden dealership??

They'll try every trick in the book, but in the end it's all bull****. It's your money, your decision. $21,000 is ample to offer for a $25,000 car, possibly too much. I'd offer $19,000. Remember there will also be hundreds in stamp duty on top of it as we

Always be prepared to walk away and leave. If you feel like you want to be able to go to only a couple of dealers and just 'get it over with' a good salesman will sense this and not go too low. If you offer 20% less enough times and walk out enough times,

Yeah, the "walk away" option is a killer IF you then have to go back to that yard for the same car. IF you go back, they have it all over you...your major bargaining chip has been played....

But there will be squillions of 03 Vectras around so you shou

Play one yard against the other... Shop around and see what is available. Pick one you like and make an offer. When they say no.. walk away saying you will buy the other one.. Then proceed to tell them that another yard is offering you the same car fo
