Hi all,I have just installed a late model xf crossflow motor including computer but no polution gear into my 1970 XY sedan, and am having trouble figuring out some hoses that attatch to the webber carby. We have the engine starting and running but very rough and rich, blowing fuel smoke from exhaust.
How do you adjust the mixtures? is it electronic?
The engine was previously running on gas and we have removed the gas components from it. I dont know what if any changes were made to the carby to suit LPG.

Any help appreciated? will email photos if required.

Also wondering about tuning, is the timing adjustment the same as the old pre crossflow? do i have to worry about dwell?
The dizzy doesnt seem able to turn fully \, the TFI module hits the block.

tuning for gas may be different borrow a manuel ofr xf to check hose connections

do you have the idle power switch hooked up?the mixture screw is located just below this.there are 2 different xf dizzys eairly has 2 wires (green and red)and late has wires in a small harness (this dizzy also has a different cap).i prefere the eairly one

Mate, if you have a carby engine, what is the computer for? If you are in Melbourne, I can swing by and give you a chop out.

With regards to the dizzy module hitting the block when you try to adjust the timing, you should be able to lift the dizzy out and rotate it to a better spot.
As long as the shaft/rotor button stays in the same position relative to the cap and you don't

if it's a carby with a computer it must be EST, i'd throw the EST unit away, all of the ESTs i have seen don't work well. the EST may not be the problem but i'd get rid of it just in case.Put a dizzy out of a late XD, XE or early XF, the one with the red

It turns out at top dead centre the rotor was on number 4.We had to rotate the leads ahead 1 so that the rotor is on the 1st.Apparently they do this when running on gas.The computer I mentioned is indeed called the EST.An xf manual is on its way,THANKS HE
