Greetings to all. HAve come across this site and it seems just what I need.
Am now allowed (Married with children) to have toys again.
Have just picked up a HZ one tonner, very good nic, but needs engine and gear box. Currently has 253 (water in oil) and 4 speed.

Do not want to a crusade BUT

Redo the 253 and 4 speed box
253 trimatic
Holden 308 4 speed
308 trimatic
Chev 307 powerglide

Any other reasonable suggestions.

Car will be driven 120 klicks per day (Mon - Fri) and on gas.
Good to get some other ideas outside the circle

Burn more rubber

If it were me doing that amount of travel I would go the 308 with T350 or 400 auto. But if you have the budget I would look at an E.F.I and 4 speed auto combo. Cheers Jim

I agree with Jim on the EFI route. VN or VP V8 wrecks are appearing at auctions for around $1500 now, and the engines are normally OK. An EFI V8 and TH700, or keep the M20, is a good swap for a HZ. All you need to do in addition to fitting the motor, box

Thanks for the first few replies.
Just a few clarifications. EFI can understand, will it just bolt in?
Do not want to (initially, can upset future projects, remember married with children) start an never ending project with, now this, now that, now wha
