Hello Everyone,
Im new to the Holden fastlane forum and have my first question,
I have just purchased my first Holden its a 1972 HQ Holden Kingswood and was wondering what is the difference between the Kingswood and the Premier. My Kingswood currently runs a 202 but I have also just purchased a fully rebuilt 253 V8 on straight gas with a M21 4 speed and V8 diff to go in, I paid $4000 for this gear and $550.00 for the car. I purchased the HQ from Longreach Qld thats way out west and it doesnt have a spec of rust in her but the bulldust was in every nock and cranny.I have a set of 215 65 R14 96H tyres and want to purchase a set of classic cragars for them will these tyres fit under the guards of the Kingswood.
Bye for now
Owen.

If your happy and you know it then clap your hands.

Hi Owen,

From memory !!

Kingswood ->> Premier
Single headlights ->> twin headlights. Includes full front apron & rad support.
Vinyl seats ->> Cloth vinyl trim seats. Could be bench or buckets in Prem. Door trims similar.

Also, the Prems had a longer armrest on the front doors with the inside handle mounted in the end of it.

Prems usually had interior light switches on all 4 doors and (I think) may have had extra lights inside the C Pillars.

They also (usually or qui

Yes longer arm rests true. Overriders optional, mine never had em.

The Kingy boot may be the same but Prem has those raised metal lumps for the trim, they are not seen/present on the kingy. As for a boot I was comparing it to a GTS 4 door then. The GT

Hi John,

Yeah, had a second thought about the C Pillar lights but you had revisited before I got back here...they were Statesman only items, weren't they?

Even the Stato bootlids are the same as or interchangable with the lesser sedans.

Cheers.

A bit of advice. Don't use the M21. Swap it for an M20. $4000 is really top $ for a 253, aussie 4-speed, Salisbury and gas conversion. All of this in a running registered car would be worth around $3,000, but as long as it's all in good nick you'll be hap

Thanks guys and Hello Mr Rich,
I'm told the M21 is the same box as the M20 just heavy duty.
Where talking fully recond all the parts he said 7 thousand spent and it runs straight gas. Im a little concerned about the M21 box and what would the M21 box be

The reason for the suggestion of the M20 over the M21 is purely because of the ratios.
The M21 has a very tall 2.54:1 first gear, which needs a very torquey motor to pull without prematurely wearing the clutch.
The M20 on the other hand, has a 1st aro

Hi Guys.

To add to what commodorenut & Byron Rich have said, an M21 is no stronger than an M20 in anyway. the ratios are the only difference.

This is a common myth that needs to be busted.

I agree with them, the M20 ratios are far more suited to

Thanks Dr Terry,

Is it possible to install the first gear from a M20 into the M21 box as the M21 box I have cost 1200 for the rebuild I was told everything is new. I would never get the true value back if I was to sell the M21 and no way in hell would

Hi Owen,

The tyres won't be the determining factor here. The offset of your wheels is.

Assuming you are putting them on stock rims or widened rims with close to the original offset, you'll be laughing. I have 235/60/14 tyres on my HQ and they don't
