Just wondering if there's any reason driving a car with a power steering box will damage it if the pump is off?
Could it be filled with power steering fluid (which I assume acts as the lubricant as well as supplying pressure) and capped?

With no fluid it certainly may damage the vanes etc inside. Also it will be a lot bloody harder to steer depending on the model of car.
