Is there any one out there that knows whether my son can legally drive his fully restored hq coupe with a stock 308 on his "p" plates in victoria. He gets his licence in feb 2006. he has owned his coupe for 4 years, and spent much of his wages restoring it.
thanks

If you go to the VicRoads website, they give you specifics of what the rules are.

www.vicroads.vic.gov.au
Click on:
-Licensing
-Getting your Ps

try the Vic roads website, or give them a call.
it sounds better if the father rings up too, not a "Hoon" teenager (as they all are aparently?!?)

My brother had that problem - there are loopholes you can use to get around it!!

An HQ coupe with the 308 is on the banned list. If it was a full pollution model such as HX or Z then he would just make it in. This includes 2 and 4 door models including the statesman.

cheers...bluHJ

Sounds like you will need to pull the 308 out, and buy a secondhand 253 to keep the fun police happy. You can find running 253's in good nick (complete with free car) for under $500. If you buy the right car you may well be able to sell off the parts and

Isn't the problem that he's not allowed to *drive* it? Not the registration? ie - even if Dad owns it, he still can't drive it. So no matter what "loopholes" you use, if a cop pulls him over, and it's a car with higher power to weight than he is allowe

And if he's in an accident, the insurance company will wipe him because he shouldn't be driving it. Any way to get out of paying up and they'll do it. But on the other side of it, if he does get pulled up, it's only a fine without any points.
I agree
