totally agree, i was told an m21 was a better gearbox then an m20 to put behind my worked 202 because i only had a 3 speed crash box and knew it prob wouldnt last to long. put i might take it to my mechanic and see what he reckons he can do with it. i thought 250 for an m21 was quite a reasonable price and was wrapped at 80 bucks but oh well at least i had a nice drive to pick it up and ended up buying a hk brougham on the way home. cheers

Just go back to his place with the gearbox and hit him over the head with it. Get your money back out of his wallet- job done.
Dont worry about e-bay complaints, theyre useless.

(sorry this is a quote)...You are right that its not been presented properly and probably have a legitimate beef with the seller, but why would you pay $250 for an old M21 box (that to all intents and purposes doesnt exist as an original Holden part) that youd just about be guaranteed youd have to rebuild anyway? Or more importantly just about now give away an M20 rather than rebuild it as an XU-1 M20 if that is what you want. Itll cost almost exactly the same to rebuild as an M20 (normal or XU-1) or M21. What I mean is forget whats happened gearbox wise (still take the guy to task if you like re Ebay) but dont get hung up on it not being an M21. The only difference between an M21 and an M20 is a couple of parts, all of which would now be worn out anyway and need replacement..........(end quote)

yep thats what im saying dont fit ANY box without rebuilding it an you may aswell build the one you got there is f..all difference.

Assuming the M20 is fine, all you have to do to make it an XU-1 box is put a rebuild kit through it and buy 2 x parts from Kingswood Country: XU-1 input shaft and XU-1 cluster gear.

To make it into an M21 you need 3 x parts: XU-1 input shaft, M21 cluster and M21 3rd gear.

Most likely it will also need synchros and first gear as these are always worn.

Only other possibility is if it an original 1972 box, youll also have to change the input shaft cover as the repro XU-1 input shafts are neoprene seal. Cover is cheap as chips though and same as a later 3spd.

You could start an "item significantly not as described dispute" as the item is not what was described.

Could have had happened what happened to me a few weeks ago. A seller accidentally listed an item twice. I won the first item and paid instantly. I asked where my item was and the clown had posted it to the person who won it 4 days AFTER I had already paid for it. I then waited a week for my refund before opening a dispute which got me the refund another week later. Hes going to get some neutral feedback on the last day available.

If at first you dont succeed then skydiving is not for you.

I would relist the gearbox with an accurate description for $80...its still cheap (unless its scrap)...then you dont have a problem...heck you might even make a profit.

I can see your beef but you picked it up...you will be pushing it up hill to get a refund. He has asked if you opened the box up...another reason not to refund.

Youre pissed off..fair enough..but you are making more out of it than you have to....sell it or fix it and move on..the ulcer isnt worth it.
