Morning Folks, Warren / John I think the reason why Johns amp meter burnt out is that if the battery ever got very low in charge the alternator would work at a higher rate than the 30 or so amps the meter is rated at. Which may be fine for a while but when the smoke gets out it's whoops! This is where fitting the shunt that was talked about earlier (I think by Warren) would carry most of the load. (This would also keep the dash original) Question can the pins in the firewall connector carry the higher amperage? I still have not so fond memories of a high speed power failure in the dark 30years ago. If originality is not a priority then cables running thru the firewall connector to the dash and fuse holder etc is my preference in HKTG's Hq,s dont seem to have the trouble. Oily

hacent read all the replies but "if" i wanted a permanent ammeter in the car id strongly consider getting a factory gauge modified to allow the use of an inductive clamp rather than direct connection.
shouldnt be too hard for a decent instrument guy.
11.38@117mph will go quicker
11.34@121mph went quicker and faster, just not quick enough.
