Greetings, That interior featured in the picture you mention has an HD dash fascia for some reason.

yes the black fascia and radio blank , pre production car maybe as HD didnt have this option.

I have owned a HOLDEN HR 1967 Premier 186S 4 speed Opel floor shift.

I was 20 at the time when I bought it in (1973). It had 66,000 miles on the clock. I sold it in 1977.

When I was younger I saw one in a magazine advertisement and always wanted one. One day I was driving along Great Eastern Highway (Perth) and saw it!

It was on display in a small car yard.

Subsequently the owner was a cop, and being a cop could do some research on vehicle licences. He told me that only 7 of these were sold in W.A.

My HOLDEN HR 1967 Premier 186S 4 speed opel was in great nik. It was the iridescent blue colour and I fitted it will 6 inch chrome wheels and Goodyear fat tyres.
The 186S engine (twin barrel V8 carbie, compared to the twin carbie X2) was a real puller for its time. The 186S engine went into the following years new Monaros.


I loved it and will never forget it. It always turned heads.

GM in the USA have a record service that will search and deliver broadcast sheets (Australia = NO) GM in the USA, you can get VIN and selling dealer info, (Australia = NO) I have been chasing dealer codes from GMH to no avail, GMH is short sighted and lazy, I believe they have more info than they release or search for. It is convenient to say NO "we don't have records" - end of story and no further enquiries when enough people get the message.

How much room does a microfiche take up?

A $10 to $50 search fee could keep a few people employed.

GMH are out of tune with enthusiasts.

Hi some years ago I was trying to run a register of know and believed to exist cars. There were not may about 20-25 from memory,not all 4 speeds, some autos and three speeds.

Iam trying to put back together a HR Premier Wagon, 186S opel 4 speed, LSD, electric tailgate. I would guess that it would be a one off build in this combination?

I must say, that with a opel 4 speed in any combination HR would nearly be a one off build with what options were avail either from the factory and or the dealer fitted options at the time.

Greg at Classicozwreck has a HR Premier sedan wrecking at the moment. I noticed D against INSERT on the body plate. What does that mean?

I know of one HR 186s with a opel 4 speed . It used to be mine . I bought it as my first car in 1974 for $600 .3 months later i got side swiped by a Valiant and had to get the rear right hand quater panel and door replaced and resprayed for a grand sum of $350 .It also suffered from the common problem of jumping out of 4 gear under load .The opel was replaced with a 4 speed saginaw box which i was given but the conversion was more trouble than it was worth .I sold it about 12 months later and the running gear was put into a FJ and the body was scrapped .Sniff sniff , sorry getting a bit teary here .

my dad had one of these hr premier 186s factory 4 speed black bucket seats back viynl top i remember being told there was only 100 of these made

What's probably important is how many are left.

I drove a HK 186S 4 speed Opel with a LSD as a kid. Bet no-one kept those much.. lol

Hey guys, my baby is a 186s opel 4 speed prem, factory lsd, disc brake etc car with a special order goya red interior (should have had somoan tan), when I first got her I asked all of the same questions and basically found out that even if Holden had the build data they couldn't give numbers of prems/186s/4speed etc as the 4 speed and 186s were add on options not specific model variants, you could order a standard ute with 161 and opel box for example, its not like recording numbers of L34s built.... Having said that from what I've read above my girl might be a bit rarer than I realized

I remember a quote from a early 70's wheels magazine that said there was "a little over 50 186s 4speed HR Premiers built in Australia". How true that was, who knows? What I do know is they were rare back in there day and even rarer now.

Hello,The HR was holdens first 4 speed production unit.
They sourced the gearboxes form opel WHICH PROVED TO BE A BIG MISTAKE,
The imported euro gearbox was weak and owners had many issues with them when compaired to the aussie made and 3 speeds.
The low production numbers where simply due to reliability issues.
As for price not really any difference vs other transmission type in the HR range.
Personally as a rule I wont puchase a 4 speed HR.
So to Me they are less valued.
That said to someone else they may feel differently.
What early automobile owners must relize is that the must buy cars for the right reasons,and not as a way of making money that only hurts the people who by the cars for the pure joy of it.
I collect a lot of things that are worth a lot of money but have never brought a thing with the thought of selling to make money.
Enjoy your automobles for what they are and try not to overthink it.

I have an early HR X2 (4/66) that was fitted with an opel 4 speed. I am led to believe that a man called Norm Beechey had a hand in putting it in my HR. How true would this be given the small amount of cars that had the 4 speed in them. From what I have been told he had a hand in building the EH S4 option.
