Any Ho Falcon, in stock standard form is quicker than any stock standard 350 monaro or XU1. The XU1 being standard also. Nothing will ever change that fact, the HO's, and also the GT's were great car's to drive interstate, especially with factory air conditioning. The Ford's came standard with excellent tyre's, the Monaro's, left a lot to be desired, and the XU1'S were just not suited to long distance travel.

I think that 1st statement is a bit of an over-generalisation. I'll agree with your comment about the Falcon's open road ability, but I think that a good HG GTS350 would give any XW Windsor HO a good run for its money.

Not too many XW/XY GTs or GT-HOs around with factory air, I would have thought.

Definitely not many around with "factory air",however a family friend bought one new off the showroom floor with it fitted. It was a "new" XW, not a demonstrator. It was the only vehicle I knew of with air conditioning then, because they were just not around.

Wheels has XW GT-HO windsor motor and HT 350 GTS.
0-30 mph 2.8 SEC for the HO and the 350 GTS is 2.8
0-40 3.9 vs 3.9
0-50 4.9 vs 5.9
0-60 6.7 vs 8.1
0-70 9.2 vs 9.7
0-80 11.2 vs 12.1
0-90 14.4 vs 15.2
0-100 16.7 vs 18.9 for the 350 GTS
I think the Holden 350 GTS motor is on par with the 351 GT.
I would of been good if holden made a 350 GTS-HO but their was a dealer cam heads etc rout you could go, as we know, some how refered to as Bathurst he he er.
I have noting against holden or ford at all but facts are facts.
But i would have the 350 GTS my self over all.

Again you are looking at HT GTS350. Find Robbo's figures for the late HG GTS350. I think they are in the AMC article too, but I don't think they have that many figures. What would be interesting would have been a late HG GTS350 with the optional diff I have in my shed from an original HG GTS350 - a 3.36:1 10 bolt. Most had 3.08.

Did the late HG 350 GTS engines get a bigger cam or is it all in the 370 heads over the 041 heads.
XY GT-HO had extractors to you know, he he.
XY GT has a bigger cam then a std 351's and them big port heads and 11.0:1 compression.
Maybe a HT-G 350 GTS auto with the 9.0:1 comp and the 441 heads would be on par with the XB GT engine but for the superior FMX ford 3 sp auto.

Anyway, why are all these posts on this thread about gts 350 and old fords?
Back to the point, Wheels mag gave Peter Brock a spot in their top 10 influential car industry personalities. He was the only racer to get a mention. Interesting in regards to this thread.

I don't know, haven't seen one apart (I did have a block out of one, but it was just a block). Only going by the figures from the day. Maybe the McKinnon plant actually built 300hp engines, rather than the earlier Tonnawanda examples that were stretching the truth a bit!

A very good point, not only was Peter arguably the best on the track & adored by the public, but respected by the motor industry as a whole.

He was the complete package, a very rare commodity.

OT, I know and past history too. I just wish that Holden had used some hotter 350s from the USA- and they were around.

Then we wouldn't have to put up with all this BS from the frod appologists.

Of course, then the frod appologists would be bleating about
"crate motors' As if they ever had the commitment to Australia that Holden had.

Back on topic...........

One eyed prejudice is bliss, would not want to open their minds to reality would we. and we have people like that on both Holden and ford camps and they are just a joke.
