From what we are led to believe the HT GTS 350 Monaro is one thing and the so called Bathurst HT Monaro ? this car has the 186 heads a bit bigger cam air cleaner mods, diff ratios and a 12 bolt diff. now this is not your std 350 Monaro your Joh average bought.
Now as I take it Joe average got the option after he bought the car new to go the engine options through a Holden dealer.

I didn't think there was a GMH offered camshaft for these. Yes air cleaner mods, holes in radiator support etc were done free of charge, as was an upgraded tailshaft from memory. 186 cast fuellies were offered as an optional upgrade but you had to pay for them. The heads on the McKinnon HG GTS350 had slightly bigger ports again than the 186 cast heads. The 12 bolt diff was also an option but dealer fitted only, and only for HK and HT GTS350. These were 3.73:1 and upwards. I've only ever seen one of these in the flesh. They were very expensive too, I think in the order of $750 or so which was like 20-25% of the cost of the car or close to it.

Re the lowered upper control arm mount points. Anyone here ever drive one? And how did it compare with the original mount points?

I'm guessing an improvement- neg camber gain is always good, but how much of an improvement did it yield?

They actually raised the mounts from the HK position by 0.62" a little way into HT (about 7/69) to improve the straight line steering tracking. It actually reduced camber and thus made the cars more likely to understeer than the early cars.

Thanks for that. I assumed they lowered it. As on Mustangs & Camaros, etc.

I've gotten the same effect on the Skylark with tall upper ball joints. Hence my interest.

Cheers,
Chris

They lowered the upper arm on 1977 LX to achieve RTS geometry (gave more neagative camber).

...i was out at the Whittlesea swap meet/car show a few years ago and a HT Monaro ex race car was present with the owner...

....he told the tale of how they would literally bend the front end crossmember to gain the desired negative camber in the surreptitious manner needed...

....another covert detail apparently was the adjustment of the front bumper bars to widen the lower gap to help improve engine cooling
