Thanks for the nice comments Leigh, yes it is nice to be near the end but its easy to think of something to do next .With the fuel issues I ended up putting a brand new sender unit in the tank then had the Gts guage on the dash replaced .It fixed it spot on .

Thanks again

Old SKool, more like old Fool!

i got a 3/79 HZ sandman ute. XX7 stamped on Tags + L32, M20.
Mine has genuine GTS guards.
I spoke to a bloke who reckons alot of the Late HZ sandmans had GTS guards Standard, as the WB was coming in 1980.
any thoughts?

Rusty, whattya think about HZ sandmans with factory GTS guards? as an option?
Its just that mine has a genuine set (3/79 ute)
glad to see you changed the grille from HJ to HZ, top work.
Did you get the grille REPO?, i could do with one.
I really like the stance of the ute that you have achieved with the 15s.

adam.

Hi Adam,

I agree with Byron about the guards. but you know anything
could of been possible 30 odd years ago . Anyone could of ordered whatever they wanted and the
dealer has there own panelshop that does whatever the customer wants before pic up ( delivery )

To tell you the truth Ive never seen a original HZ sandman ute with them
My ute is a replica HZ sandman .

The GTS guards can be pressed in as so no one can tell that they are not original . It costs
$100 a guard . Well that s what my brother in law pays , then he sells them for $700 pair .

The HZ grill was a second hand grill , i cleaned the chrome
with autosol then sprayed the grill with gloss black then put repo new badges on it , not suppost to have the GTS badge on the grill if it is a HZ Sandman ,but i like it and its going to stay .

My ute has so many small modifications that im glad its not original Sandman .

If it was original you would be mad to cut & shave bits of hear and there & change & customize & deleate wiring .

Cheers Adam & i definately agree with you about Old SKool .

Do you have a post up with pictures of your HZ Sandman ute : )

caio

I can email you a pic if you like of mine.
Its got nothing on yours.

where in perth do you get the GTS pressings done?
i have about 50 STD guards that no - one wants, but rust free
i heard there is a guy in welshpool somewhere.

My Brother in law ( TODD) www.rareparts.com.au knows the guy , I think the guy is getting old now & he only has
the press for the HJ- HZ GTS . I know a year ago Todd gave him 7 sets of average rusty guards & the guy pressed
the GTS flutes in then Todd got me to fix & weld the guards & file up to sell for $700 pair .

not sure how much longer the guy was doing it for as i think he was hard to find .

Dont know if Todd would tell anyone who or where he is , but i know what your saying . you could make a
fortune with all your guards .

Hey boys,

Ive been offered $15000 cash a few times for my Replica Silver sandman HZ ute .

I Just keep telling them that its not for sale because ive worked too hard and everything is perfect and
its nice to have a car to enjoy & use .

When you finally get something good ,everyone allways wants it . haha

Rob,
If you have an original Sandman ute it would be worth $30,000 in neat
condition with all numbers matching.

Adam , i was just reading something in the link above , your HZ sandman could of come with those gts guards,
because late in the model they might of put them back in ie 1979

I would love to see some photos of your sandmans Rob & Adam .

no worries rusty, whats your email for the pics?

As Bryon pointed out, the HZ GTS sedan finished 2/79, my ute is a 3/79.
I think the utes finished in 24/3/79? , and the vans in 10/79?.
So, yeah, if any of them got the GTS guards, you would think it would be just after the last GTS sedan and into
3/79. Theory only.
