74HJLS I remember overhauling a 2 barrel carby on a 308 bedford 4wd truck. I think it was a rochester brand carby.

hey i found a 253 that mite be what im looking for can sum 1 tell me when it was made it is QR254829 and i got a no: on top of the eng im told its a cast date it is L 2 6 what ever that means

That can't be correct. You most likely have left off the last number of the date code. My guess it's 26/11/72 ie the date code should be L262. By 1974 Holden had changed it's date code system to dd/m/y ie 2/11/76 would be 2L6.

so what date code do i have to look for ???? the car is a 10/71 hq
what eng No: do i have to look for?

and is ther sum that has all the old info from when it was new? like is ther a way of finding the 1st owner?

I have the same situation as hqGTS2door (and the same car - 9/71 80837) with a QP Engine number. My sources (ex GM-H from HQ days) agree with Dr. Terry re QP being either a police "retreival" or a spare parts replacement engine through NASCO. The Edelbroc

I can answer your question on the Date Code Linamint.

Holden didn't use I as it could easily be confuse with a 1.

QP won't be a Nasco or GMP&A replacement engine. All red versions of these start with N. Plus the only two engine number prefixes with a P as the second digit are the original LJ XU-1 JP and it's NASCO NP replacement. It will be either a QLD Police numebr

Regarding the QP, I spoke to a contact at GM-H again today. After further consultation with the HQ old boys club in the GM-H lunch room (ie: unofficial, but probably bloody right), they stand by their version

Yeah, I reckon you're on the money - it's probably a repaint (what were they thinking in 1975 - 1995!!!) - the old girl is having the diff rebuilt at present - the engine gets a work over starting tomorrow - first job - chip away some paint and also look

I find it hard to believe that you would have been forced to pull your engine apart and get the block decked simply to please the whims of someone. This is what you'd have to do to remove the Holden stamped engine number off a Nasco replacement 308 short

You had to option the guage in everything other than GTS and Statesman, which were only a small percentage of sales, Coupes were less than 3% and GTS was maybe half of these, and Statesman would be no better. My father ordered his HQ Kingswood Wagon with
