Not a Holden Monaro GTS but the GM-SA after the Holden name stopped being used for South Africa manufactured cars.
This to date one owner car was first registered in June 1972, was fitted with a 308cid V8 and the optional Trimatic auto transmission and LSD. She is finished in her original Oasis Green with Black vinyl roof and Black interior with Yellow/Black houndstooth check seat faces - the dashboard is wood veneered as is centre console.
Totally original and unrestored she has 46,000 klms.
Now for the downside, minor rust in door bottoms, below front and rear screens. Vinyl roof is bubbled. Tranny leaks on outer seals. Could do with new seals and weatherstrips but overall still very good. Priced to go at AU$23,700 plus shipping at around AU$3,000 plus import VAT at 11,5%. Cheers! Ask for photos if interested.

Hi Laurence
You obviously never saw my earlier postings to this site in which I was upfront and stated that Im a classic car broker based in South Africa. So to answer your question would be a bit like you "walking up to an ice-cream vendor stall on a hot summers day and asking to be told where all the other ice-cream vendors are located"! So the answer is, er...NO! Join the dots!

Hello Peter

Do you have any further information on the Chev SS model in general ?

I noted you said it was finished in its original Oasis Green ?

Do you know of or have a colour chart/listings for the Chev SS or any other confirmed factory details on paint codes etc ?

Thanks

Hi, not sure if I can help, apart from this source;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holden_Monaro

the interesting thing is that GM/Holden Australia apparently introduced the Holden HQ Monaro in July 1971 - yet the Chev SS Coupe manufacturing continued by GMSA way beyond this point - not sure whether the "tooling" for pressing body panels was bought from GM Australia or if they simply order these from the Australian "body-in-white" plant!

beyond this I have a scanned image of the English / Afrikaans sales brochure printed in South Africa for GMSA on the 1972 "HG" SS Coupe which gives the colour options as well as the engine / transmission combinations - cant work out how to post it but send me your email address and Ill copy you. Obviously I can also send you a photo of the OASIS Green cars tags/paint code if that helps.

Unfortunately, it seems a lot of GM factory records were mislaid or simply destroyed over the years after a period of time or possibly when GM pulled-out of SA and their local operations were "veiled" behind the name of DELTA (local MBO) during the high of the apartheid sanctions days. Incidentally, GM is now back having bought out DELTA a few years ago. Our local production is now based upon the German Opel (or British Vauxhall) products if you prefer. Along with Isuzu dlvs (bakkies) and some fully assembled USA Cadillacs and Australia (Chevrolet) Lumina SS - what a honey, especially with the 6,0 motor. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Lawrence, both Google and Yahoo are excellevt search engines - depending on how you "pose" your question/s! The GM plant opened in 1926 and all US division cars were "produced" Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, LaSalle, Oakland, Oldsmobile and Pontiac. The Holden cars only started as a locally sold car/s after WW2 - this went on until about 1970 when Holden showrooms closed and the Monaro became the SS Coupe. Later in the 1970s identical Opel Germany made as Chev 2500/3800/4100 and Holden Australia Premier / Kingswood / Monaro bodies were Chevrolet DeVille / Constantia and Kommando. The next 15-20 years were all Opel proper with a few private imports of Yanks until LHD was banned on new imports in 2001. Since we have the Ultima SS and Ute.
Notable is that in the 1950-70s the AUS Holden Utes were prized cars for farmers until the arrival of Toyota, et al. Enough said?

It was my pleasure buddy. However it is now time to open mouth and change foot with apologies to all concerned. Im getting old, cantankerous and feeble minded it seems.
Anyway I stand corrected, in my statement that I had a brochure which gave the colour options for the 1972 HG Chev SS Coupe. What I had actually absorbed but incorrect filed due to CRAFT disease (cant remember a f... thing) is that what I had seen was the original dealer sales certificate of this car to its only owner from new - which I am sending you directly by email with photos of the cars tag/s, ok!

In terms of GM Brochures in general (pun) if you go to the following website, you will be able to look at a vast range of cars produced in South Africa by GM, Ford, ALfa, VW, et al;

http://www.moby302.co.za/index.html
now that Ive found the source of the file sent to me originally, and not wanting to compromise copyright or acknowledgement to the original contributors of information which are so deserving and unselfish everybody on the FAST LANE site can view both the SA Holden/Chevs but also the AUS Holden Monaro GTS brochure/s amongst many others.

There I feel much better now.. next time you bump into an ex-SA now Australian be nice and have a beer (or coffee if you prefer) with him - after all we share commom passions for so many things; cars, rugby, cricket, and women! Sorry ladies - of course I know that females are not "things"!

Not sold yet, which really surprises me - Ive seen adverts in Australia last year for total basket cases being offered at very similar money - this car is a Concourse winner by comparison. Had one of you "raiders" trying to steal it, man is he greedy or what?

The cars owner has always lived in the same location - approx. 70 klms (as the crow flies) from the coastline in KwaZulu Natal. This region is hot and humid in summer. The owner has always owned many cars, average of six, so this car spent the vast majority of her life in a corner of his auto electrical workshop. Space more than anything else has forced the sale as he is now retired and has recently sold his business.

Yeah right! And my pet elephant refuses to drink anything but FOSTERS Lager.... wait a minute... is that where I keep losing my Fairmonts?

Seriously though, tell me more! I really must start drinking again - even if I do have to walk, the Ele is more expensive to run than the GT351.

Oh yes, now I remember... If you want to but a SA GT351 my other persona has posted one on this site... Ele did not like the colour.

Tut, tut "HQ-for-Me" such language, why dont you take a good long look at yourself in the mirror, before you start branding others with your smut! It is hardly my fault that you want to ask inane questions. Are you not you old enough not to believe in "Fairy" tales? While we are on the subject, lets just correct a few things from the article that you referred;

1. The first photo, with ten Fairmont GT351s and a Chevrolet SS Coupe was clearly taken from a cat-walk inside the hull of the RORO (Roll-on Roll-off)ship that runs from Port Elizabeth and Durban to Perth and onwards. Not a pub or warehouse - not sure if the cars were on the outward or return trip!
2. We had the opportunity to speak on the phone with Tom Druce several months ago. Although he may currently reside in South Africa, the man is Australian born and bred.
3. Apart from whatever cars he had bought and/or sold Mr. Druce continues to buy top condition 70s era classic Ford, Holden and Chevrolet cars - and he pays the commensurate price based on the cars condition.
4. Mr. Druces comment about apartheid "fat-cat" whites has no basis or relevance to motor-cars in general. The other guy who refers to South Africans as "Hansie Cronje lovers" is equally uninformed it seems - Hansie was killed in a plane crash in 2002.
