They stockpiled VS utes, so they enough left up until the VU was released in Dec 2000.

I've seen plenty of late 2000 VS Utes but I think the V8s ran out before the V6s.

From memory I've seen an 8/2000 VS V8 ute & a 9/2000 VS V6.

When I bought my VSIII V6 manual S on Xmas Eve 2000 there were no V8's available, mine was the second last manual S in captivity but plenty of auto S and auto Holden utes left (in both column and console shift), no manual Holden ute though which is why I got the manual S. From memory VU volume production began in October 2000. I'm pretty sure I'm with Dr Terry on seeing an 8/2000 V8 at one stage.

Yes. There was a VSIII Statesman too but the Holden utes went significantly longer.

Yes, the VSIII Statesman & Caprice were replaced by the WH series in June 99, but the VSIII Utes were sold through until the end of 2000.

VTII & WH got the LS1 V8 while the VSIII Utes soldiered on with the Holden 5.0.

I actually recall seeing VSIII as new car runouts well into 2001. By then I think most were column auto Holden ute but they were also very cheap. You can imagine the choice faced by a buyer, a totally different vehicle in most ways. Normally a run out of an older series like VUII runout while VY was on sale it at least is an apples for apples comparison. But in the end the right price I guess saw them moved eventually. I also remember a local Holden dealer almost pleading me to buy an old stock V2III CV8R they had, it was well into VZ availability. They were as low as $40k, but still not as cheap as the low km 2.5 year old V2 I ended up buying. I think they ended up registering the CV8 R and using it as a dealership car for a while before selling it as a used car.

Personally I'd rather the V2II CV8R over the VZ.

I borrowed a VZ Monaro years ago & the boot was useless because it had the Pontiac style fuel tank which used up more than half of it.

There aren't too many other major changes from V2II to VZ. Same basic powertrain, same dash etc.

For some reason people liked the fluff on the VZ CV8 like the proper dual exhaust and bonnet scoops. The VZ did have a higher advertised power rating too. Look at prices people want for them, eventually it will turn around and the first of the V2 will be what people want just like a HK. I preferred the V2 over any of the others as I liked the dash better and it didn’t have the awful reverse sensors in the rear bar. I liked the standard V2II/III wheels though which I put in mine, I still have the original V2 Enkei rims.

The car was a V2III CV8R not a V2II, fixed my post.

Here's a trivia question.

If you saw 2 Monaros parked in the street, one a V2II & one a V2III, ccould you tell the difference between them, assuming aftermarket wheels were fitted so that's not an identifier.

Same wheels anyway aren't they? Except for V2II CV6.

If it was a CV6 it is a V2II.

If it was Purple Haze, Hothouse or Vespers it is a V2II.

If it was Impulse, Barbados or Cosmo it is a V2III.

If you could see the trim and it was Purple Haze or Vespers it is a V2II. Likewise if it was Cosmo or Bermuda trim it is a V2III. But if you could see inside you could probably see the steering wheel which is different.

But I think you are after the lack of an external antenna in a V2III, assuming you could walk around it.

Oh, if either were a CV8R the colour would give it up first!
