Hi all

Been hearing a lot lately about VH SL/E wagons. Some peeps are saying only 10 were built, towards the end of the VH run. The people in the know say there were never any VH SL/E wagons made. I know of the 30ish VC SL/E wagons, but now been hearing there is VH SL/E wagons out there.

Perhaps some dealer made what would be probably called a replica VH SL/E wagon, use VH SL/E interior parts etc into say SL/X wagon.

As you suspected Damo, no VH SL/E wagons were made.

This is just another bulls*** rumour started on facebook by morons who still believe in the Easter bunny, and Santa Claus.

Actually I reckon I can almost pinpoint it to the heap of s*** that was advertised for sale as a genuine SL/E wagon by someone who has less IQ points than teeth, and half of those are rotted...who has been telling interested "buyers" that I don't know what I'm talking about, and that VH8VL35 on the tag says it's a VH, 8V means V8, L35 says it's an SLE but the tag stamper got it wrong - it should have been 5L3 not L35.

I don't think Holden would have employed a dyslexic gen-Y to stamp tags like all the lame numberplates on the road these days... but it made me chuckle to see what people think they know....

There was VH wagons done by HDT though - at least one O'Neill VH wagon was built, and another ADP without the flares, just like the 30 odd VK ADP HDT wagons, and roughly a dozen VL wagons of various model names, but not all of them were built as Calais/SLEs though.
Cheers,

Mick

That's what i thought. It was on one of those fb pages, I've said no VH SL/E wagons built but others say they were! I knew i wasn't telling porkies about them. And yep, amazing what others say about numbers.

Easy way to prove that it is all bulls*** is to get em to actually prove the car exists.

Afterall.. It isnt up to us to prove that they didnt, it is up to them to prove they did.

Get them to post up the ID Plate details.

If they cant do that ..... call bulls*** and tell em so.

Exactly what happened Edelbrock1 - he sent a pic of the tag to someone interested initially, and they sent the details to me - it was an SL/X wagon, 3.3L trimatic, and now has a 308 in it (or so the seller says).

One giveaway too, was it had headrests on the back seat - none of the 1st generation commodore wagons (even A9Y VL Calais) had them, and he was also teling me it had a dodgy rear seat backrest - it looked like a sedan backrest was modified to fit.

I sent him back the decoded tag details, which he duly went back to the seller with, and thats when the abuse started....
Cheers,

Mick

Anyone got a link to this car that is for sale?

Sounds like he needs to have a few emails sent his way.
Nothing abusive (yet)... Just a Hi I am interested, can I have the ID details" type emails. Then respond with "sorry mate it is a fake, good luck with the sale"

I have only had the info sent to me 3rd hand in a private message on facebook from one of my "friends" on there who was interested, and asked for the details. I haven't seen the ad itself, only the feedback from others who are having a good laugh at the guy telling "buyers" that my tag decode was wrong.

I would go looking, but every time I look on facebook I lose too many brain cells trying to fit in, so I tend to only stick to a few more intelligent groups.

Damo might have a direct link to it.
Cheers,

Mick

No, don't have a link. Its been removed anyway. Was a VH SL/X wagon for sale but a person said he had a VH SL/E wagon, said last 10 were done in house, what ever that means. What ended the argument was when i asked to prove it. The person reckons he has the paper work to say it is real.

The bull**** artists are getting worse on certain fb pages, even when proven wrong, still say they are right, as Mick knows!

Bumping this one up.
I have an old mate that worked at Holden, said he worked at product planning, anyway we were on the phone for 3 hours talking old classic Commodores. I asked him about SL/E wagons, cause i just got hold of the VC SL/E wagon brochure. He said Initially Holden were planning on a VB SL/E wagon, one was done for a look at it but it was converted back to a SL model. Said the VC ones were done with out proper authorisation from the powers that be and production stopped.

Anyway getting the VH SL/E wagons, Holden didn't make any, we all know that but he did say certain rogue dealers converted SL/X wagons into VH SL/E wagon. When higher up found out why SL/E trims/parts etc were off to these dealers they stopped supplying these parts. Also some of these wagons were converted back to VH SL/X wagons.

So is it then possible the guy does have one of the converted SLX?
Maybe that's what he means or is talking about.
I for one know how people's words or meanings can be taken the wrong way and or twisted around.
Did you get to see the paperwork Damo?
Cheers, Damo 2. Lol.

My Hq Wagon is plated 6-cyl 3 speed man.
But from the original owner book i know it was first owned by GMH Dandenong and did near on 10, 000 klms in less than 2 months and the books say its chassis number was fitted with a 350 chev and 350 auto, only the TH350 wasn't fitted in a Holden in 1973!
My guess is they were testing the TH350 out around Lang Lang.
Point being, GMH did some weird stuff back in the 70's and 80's and I have heard of dealers making up their own specials too.
I bet some dealers built SLE wagons.
I would love to see the paperwork for the VH Wagon that was for sale.

I've asked for some paper work from people that say they have a VH SL/E wagon but as always, they say they can't find it etc.

Also people still argue they didn't make VC SL/E wagons. Well Mick, myself and few others on here know they made them, hell even got an original sales brochure on them recently.

Hey Guys,

Don't think anyone will see this as the post is over 4 years old. But Holden made 4 VH SL/E Wagons which were an internal order for GMH Executives. They had velour interiors all the SL/E Sedan bells and whistles and the 308 Blue motor.

Might be showing my age here but if you ever went to the Car Show in Burwood Vic at the old Blind Dog School on Burwood Hwy you would have seen one there. Had the Plates HOT-WGN and it was Silver. The last time it appeared at the show it was used to prompt Drink Driving as it was rear ended by a drunk driver and the car was written off.

Your not that old Valentino, or we're both old farts because I clearly remember those car shows in Burwood before it became a concrete business park. nice info on the wagons.

TH350 was fitted to GMH built vehicles in that exact timeframe, but not behind a V8, and not assembled by GMH or badged as a Holden. But you’d recognise the cars as HQ or HJ.

There was a VH SL/X wagon for sale at the last Southern River swap meet here in Perth. Was blue with the 2 tone blue interior, had electric windows andcentral locking with the slide knobs, trip computer and cruise control, and was a 308. All looked factory fitted, the car was in good original condition.
