Looking at putting an EFI 5-litre into my HZ overlander. It's curently an original red 308 on LPG with TH400. The EFI installation is easy - I've done it before. I've got a rebuilt HX 308TH bottom end ready, and I'll use the complete VN/VP top end with an SV89 auto (180kW) ECU. As the tonner already has LPG, I would like to keep it, although the EFI V8's are a lot better on fuel than the current thirsty setup. Has anyone here had experience with a VN/VP 5-litre on LPG? Do you use a donut (I will probably adapt a VN airbox and shift the battery)? Do you turn off the pump or just the injectors when on LPG? What do they go like? It already has a WOLF ignition modifier installed to change the spark profile for LPG, that will work with the GM Delco ignition. The other issue I will probably have (again help!) is the speed sensor. Currently the speedo is connected to the Dana 20 tranfer case, but for ease I'll connect the speed sensor to the TH400 speedo output (same as a VN TH700), as in high range the transfer is 1:1. However in low range the signal will be wrong as low range is about 2.5:1.

Hi Byron can't help with most of this but I suggest you wire it so you bypass the whole efi system when on lpg. That way you are not wearing out the injectors. The gas is introduced straight through the manifold so the injectors do nothing (uless you have

Thanks John. One method I've seen before is to keep the EFI pump(s) running, and break the pair of wires that feed the injectors. As it will probably run on petrol most of the time, with gas just used whenever I feel like it this shouldn't be a problem. I

In essence the EFI bypass is OK, except that the ECU still controls spark and timing.


also how would you get ur O2 sensor to feedback properoly not casuing error codes?


Im interested in how LPG is run thru injected motors

Byron I took 40thou off the head of my VK injected it runs fine on LPG but I don't know if the mixture here in WA is different to what you run over there. I suspect it depends who the the supplier is.
A wild guess leads me to assume I am running around 1

I'm unsure why they do it. Perhaps it is easier to keep it running than to stop it. Is there feedback to the ECU that the pump is running? I don't recall it, and if there is it will only be a contact off the relay, meaning you have to break the actual pum

fuel running is ok, as it returns to tank anway.


i have the factory PFI manaul at home, cant recall if there is feedback.. am thinking so..


good point about the other stuff.. interesting stuff.
