forgot to mention that it is a four speed box. Any clues as to what model/year car this is out of?

Dunno if I can be of much help ATM, but on the weekend I can take a pic later of a W50 celica 5 speed & W40 toyota 4 speed extension housings to show the difference.

Thanks for the info. I've checked gear ratios of the box and established that the box is most probably a T40 or W40 (as you suggested). Either way a box built in the 70`s (which probably makes it one of the newest parts in my car!). Cheers your info will
