I always thought that the DES WAS (14 D) car came third. And was later disqualified for having the wrong valves.
But was told today that the Des West car actually came second and was disqualified from there.

So where did it come?? second or third??

Des West drove a red HK 327 which was 14D.

I thought he came third and was then disqualified.

Des West and Ron Monks drove a Picardy Red HK GTS327 in 1968, number 14, class D, NSW rego EYG184. They finished second but were disqualified for big valve heads. Bruce McPhee and Barry Mulholland won in car 13D (Warwick yellow NSW rego ESO100. After 14D'

Thanks Byron, I was wrong on that point, my early book on this led me astray. I checked the later books & that's the way it was, there's even a picture of the red 14D Des West car sponsored by Lorack Motors.

So Des West actually c

I was speaking to Bruce and his wife a while back. He stripped his new cars down to nothing and rebuilt them so that all problems could be found before race day. Apparantly not much needed fixing on the HK. However the Ford for 1969 had to have a large nu
