not saying that i dont like tattoos, becuase i do alot, but it seems tattoos are becoming a fashion statement, with every second metro walking around having the southern cross tattooed on some part of their body..not saying that i havent seen some southern cross's that aren't on metro's (haha), but they are getting all the more common..was just wondering if anyone had 1. an opinion on this and tattoos in general, 2. any original tattoo designs, or 3. a southern cross or 'such is life' or anything..i was talking to my old man, who is around 60, he said in his day mainly who had them were sailors who got them in different places around the world, and he commented on how most of the people who have asian lettering probably have no idea what it even says...
also, pictures could make this topic better than just a description..

a tattoo is for the person getting it, not for everyone around them to judge it

Thanks: 2 times
Bronx, I am over 60 and my recollection is that back in the day tattoos were a fashion statement of a different kind. Society was completely different and pretty staunch back then, so tattoos were basically confined to men who were at odds in one way or another with the rest of society, which gave tattoos a bit of a stigma and usually stereotyped (read disadvantaged) the wearer.

GMH, If you mean older people looking, its not that we judge, our upbringing/logic means that we just dont understand the concept.

The way I see it is that people should be free to do whatever they want as long as it does not hurt anyone else.

The southern cross is showing a bit of national pride in todays society, this cant be all bad and the only hero we Aussies have is old Ned and his catch frase which is true to day as it was then. Im covered in tatoos each a pic of a stage in my life, women, death, rebellion, the birth of my 4 kids and the boy got his name with the southern cross to show he was 100% Aussie (7 generation in just over 200 years), the cops hated them at one stage and women loved them. Today its more of a fassion statement, more women have them and done descreatly usualy with piercings and as you say a lot of metros have them. Will they regret them when they are 60? 70?, 80? I wont hell Im 62" 125kg shaved head big mow and generaly a nice guy LMAO.

Im a practice pad for my brother inlaw who is becoming a tattooist, i look like a criminal i have tattoos up my arms and legs. I have a bit of a mixed bag Dragons, hearts with names, angels , kids names a 42 willys coupe chuck in a bit of tribal even have Slash from GnRs signiture skull and top hat near my hand. No trends here just a dumbs*** for an aspiring artist.
he has quite a few more planned out for me yet. I think people who want a tat too mean somthing and spend alot of time thinking of somthing will regret there tattoos more then people like me who just dont care because what there trends are now maybe be very diferant 10 years from now. tattoos hurt like s*** i have tatts under both urms near my arm pits and my learner tattist hit the bone on my shin!! If you dont like pain stay away, if its for fashion dont get it you may not like it later if you cant make up your mind on what you want its probably not a good idea to get one either. I have no reason for mine i just do it. My wife has flowers on her lower belly and has had 2 kids and the tattoo hasnt changed.

Havent you learnt anything from that guy that gives sermons at church?...Captain whats his name.
