Hi All,did holden in the 70s when stamping engines and sub frames do it by heat?i am asking because if a number was grounded off and restamped i would be able to get the original numbers by the heat marks under the paint?Cheers

in the HQ-WB series the chassis numbers were stamped by a machine (rolled on)

i'm unsure about the engine numbers but i'd imagine they were done the same way

no heat was used

to find a number you can wave a oxy torch over the area and it'll (sometimes) show up briefly, this works really well on blocks that have been decked and the number was machined off
