I am having a problem with a trimatic that sits behind a 308 in a HG brougham.... when changing from park through reverse, neutral and all the forward gears you can feel the selector shifting between gears but nothing happens.... there is also absolutely no change in the revs of the motor like it normally does when a gear engages and it comes under load...
any thoughts? sounds terminal to me

Does it still drive? Does it shift auto between gears nice, or does it slip? |

doesnt go forwards or backwards..... in any gear it does not put any load on the motor ie when you put an auto into drive you can normally feel the motor change revs... with this box there is no change..... it feels like every gear is neutral

What is the level showing on the dipstick? If it is showing full, then it would be wise to get the box and converter to a transmission specialist. They will be able to rebuild it for a good price, and even upgrade it with a more positive shift feel. I paid $450 to get my Trimatic rebuilt with V8 clutchplates and a tight shift, and the converter done as well.
It may sound expensive, but think about it compared to a modern 6 speed with electronic solenoids auto costing $7000 or even get a stupid $12,000 auto. Lets be real. A Trimatic is about the cheapest auto you can get rebuilt, and I have flogged, burnout caned, treated my Trimatic like a dog, and 6 years it still changes like a dream. Oh and I have only changed the fluid once costing $120 for a service. Some of the fancy new auto's need $2000 for a service |

has it been sitting for a while? like 2-3 years plus???. i have found that some take upto a minute to drive in gear once selected....after 10 minutes, they are fine.... |
