Hi leaky Holden folk. If you own a VE and are experiencing issues with saturated carpet on the passenger side particularly near the battery I can tell you why.

I own a recently acquired 2009 SS ute and noticed the problem on the passenger side. I tried everything I could think of including re-sealing the windscreen, pulling off the trim panels to the rear window and sealing that, I checked the rubber door seals all to no avail. I even removed the roof strip in case the weld was incomplete or had split. Again to no avail.

So here's the problem. If you pull off the trim panel at the bottom of the windscreen passenger side only (you do not need to remove the wipers)and look down into the firewall you will see plenty of leaf matter so remove that. You will also see a red cable going through a grommet, seal that just for good measure. Below it is a hole in the firewall about the size of a 10 cent piece. This should have a grommet in it, if it is missing THIS IS THE SOURCE OF YOUR PROBLEM. Water drains across this hole and runs directly into your car!

Trust me, I went to hell and back rectifying this problem so I hope my experience will help you. It's amazing how a simple omission like this can cause such a hideous problem.

Best of luck Holdeneers!

First I've heard of that one. Sounds like your case was by lack of attention from the (well paid) monkey on the line who forgot to fit the grommet.

My own VEs, those in the family, my mates ones, and the 40+ we had on the fleet at work from '07-'11 haven't had any leaks, so it's probably a relatively isolated incident, but annoying enough to drive you crazy trying to find it.
Cheers,

Mick

Hi Des. I know it's 5 yrs since this was posted, but I've recently had this issue. Haven't looked for the missing grommet, but I think I might have another cause for this issue.
My passenger footwell gets very wet after heavy rain. I park my "07 VE SSZ ute outside on a sloping driveway (nose down). When I open the passenger door after heavy rain, water pours out of the door. My theory is that water enters the door down the outside of the window. If the car was on a level driveway, the water would just drain out of the normal door drains. Because the car is nose down, water builds up in the bottom front part of the door and overflows past the plastic sheet that is under the door card because there isn't a drain at the very front of the door. I've yet to verify this by taking the door card off. I'll let you know in a couple of weeks when I get the chance.
Cheers, Mike

How steep is your drive? I parked my VE nose down for 4 years, and my wife's CalaisV has parked in the same spot for near on 10 year - also nose down, on about a 10-12 degree slope. No water issues with the VE (there is a drain closer to the front of each front door) but I do get the LHR door jamb filling with water on my FG Falcon - but it self-drains before it gets high enough to get inside the car.

I'd be checking for debris/blockage in the door drains.
Cheers,

Mick

My driveway also about 10 degree slope-also has Calais V parked in it! I'll check for blocked drain. Cheers, Mike
