I have not been active on any other Holden forums except this one for 4-5 years now, so don't tar me with the same brush as the one that burnt you.

If the forum you're referring to is "Just" about commodores, as alluded to in post # 8, then it's mostly inhabited by people who's parents were still in nappies in 1977 - a forum I was banned from in 2002/3 for pointing out some very inaccurate information across numerous posts - one such example was a response from a 14 year old that would have lead to the guy frying his digital VK Calais cluster, and several requests to remove plagiarised material of mine that were ignored too.

My point about forums was merely to show how different this forum is, and not to assume that everyone is like what you find on other forums.

My other point was that this place is that it's all about give & take, and so far all you have done is chase more & more info, ask people to help you, and failed to offer anything in return - not even a single photo of the car has been posted in this thread (photobucket is not hard to use). I even posted my email address for you to email photos to me (way back on page 1 of this thread) but that hasn't happened, despite your reply to it.

And then when you asked me to look at the car when I was on a business trip in Melbourne, and left me high & dry with no contact at all?

You still haven't told us your proper first name. The 4th post in this thread you sign off as Damo, but your profile says Phil......

So how about a bit of "give" on your part?
Cheers,

Mick

At the time i had no phone because i dropped it in my pool while cleaning the pool. While at my mates place we were talking about the GTS and he set me up on HSV forum and Fastlane, that's why his details are up.
I didn't even realize his name was on the information part until yesterday. I've tried changing it but it won't change.
My name is Damion Valentine from Deer Park Vic but I'm just there while reno on house and unit in back done and then back to living in South Yarra, got a house in Sorento I'm doing also. You probably guessed it, I'm a property developer.
I would like to post photos for everyone but im really no good with technology as was born in 1974, yeah I've hit the big 40. I've been working on cars and reading into holdens since i was 12.
Im not computer savy, sorry.
All i know how to do is send photo via msg from phone to phone, log on the net and dial a number basically. .
I own a 1974 HQ Premier Wagon that was a test car owned by GMH dandenong, quite a few commodores, the VT GTS proto, This VB talked about here, VR ss, Mercedes Benz E 6.3 2006 as my daily drive, i have a beautiful wife who is very understanding of all my "Junk" as she calls it and a beautiful daughter and when I'm not working on a house or at a meeting all i do is read HOLDEN and work on my cars and play with my daughter or hang out with my wife and friends.
I hope this is a bit of an insight into who i am and what i do for a living and we can move forward. Can i send my photos to someone so they can be posted as i really don't have a clue how to do it.
Cheers, Damo.

Hi Damo,

I've got the pics - the tonne of pics!

When I get some time, I will upload them into photobucket, and post them on the forum.

Glancing through them, there are some definite indications of a prototype or pre-production car.
Date codes prove that, and not only the dates, but how they are coded (different to local production).

I will do an in-depth reply to you over the break, so you can put some more puzzle pieces together, anc clear up a few things you may have over-thought.

Cheers,

Mick

Good on ya Damo for getting deep down and getting answers about this car. You've found an extremely rare piece of Holden history it seems.

Wish i could get info on my VB, like this.

Thanks for letting me know you got the photos Mick.
Do you want me to send you more off the other odd parts on it i have found. TheVC high rise console etc etc.
I just didn't want to bombard you too much. Lol
There are quite a lot more.
Again, thanks Mick.

G'day SLE nut, I'm pretty good at finding information and I've got pretty good sources and ways of obtaining it (all legally of course). I've been doing this for over 20 years.
Maybe i can help you. Let me know.
Cheers, Damo.

I will ask Chris Emmerson if he knows.
What color is the car?
Chris gave me the name of the company who manufactured them after he did the design work, I posted it up earlier, their name was Calta brands and based in S.A
The pinstripe color for mine is a thick red top stripe and a thin blue bottom stripe, Chris said he personally applied the pin stripes to my car. He said when management first saw the Tuxedo Black over Aztec Silver car they loved it.
Chris based the Shadow tone design after the English Bentley and Rolls Royce that used a dark color over a light color.
Cheers

G'day Mick.
Thanks for posting the pics of the car. Did you receive the more recent ones i've emailed you?
Not sure when your back from your trip away but give me a call when you are free for a chat.
I just bought another car and want to talk to you about it if that's ok. A few days ago i was steered in the direction of yet another Tuxedo black over Aztec silver SLE here in Melbourne, only 20 mins from my place. Its an 8th month 1980 VC Shadow tone black over silver 253 manual car 334 pack. I called the guy flat out for two days trying to get hold of him with no luck and was beginning to give up hope it was still available. Then i thought i will try one more time and he answered and said he still had it. The next day i was there looking at it, well needless to say I couldn't close the deal fast enough! Genuine Black over Silver Shadow tone on the id plates.
He had it advertised as a V8 auto so i was shocked when i got there looked inside and saw a factory 4 speed console and manual gear shift sticking out! Did they come out factory with a 4 speed option? Or would one of the dealers fitted it? Its all very factory looking, nothing that gives any indication of being a "retro" fit years later. No floor cut, no messy wiring, no doggy firewall holes etc.
It too has the adjustable rear headrests and Grey interior.
Looking forward to speaking with you about it.
I'm also going to look at a factory Tuxedo black paint with claret interior VL 5 litre this Sunday , owner says its one of 2 Factory Tuxedo black Berlinas made, can you give me any insight on it before i go look at it Mick? Im hopping to add it to the collection.
Cheers, Damo.

As far as i know Damo, VC SL/E 334 aren't factory manual(Yes 334 is manual on VK Calais, hence why some peeps get confused). Usually a VC SL/E 334 is the highest optioned VC SL/E 253 and mostly shadow tone. On the body ID plate, does it have M40 for TRANS?

G'day Damo, yes I was of the same belief that 334 only applied to manual from VK and yeah it does have M40 on the id plate for the trans code which would mean Trimatic that's why I asked could it be dealer fitted as it looks very factory in all areas of fitment. The car is Aug 1980 build, are there any ideas or guesstimates on numbers produced in Black / silver shadowtone?
Im yet to hear from Mick, I presume he is still away.
All the best for the New Year mate.
Cheers, Damo.

It could be dealer fitted. Dealers did crazy stuff on the old Commodores back in the day. As for how many produced, in those colours i don't know. I did hear awhile back something like 1600odd in those two colours, not sure if that is correct however. I know not many shadow tone VC SL/Es in Tourquay Sand on top of Sandlewood Beige metallic were made.

Bugger, I had a 336 pack in that colour combination in the early '90's, I paid $3500 for it with a 5lt and Turbo 350. From what I have read though the T350 wasn't an option in VC and it actually had a black motor so it had been modified. Bloody great car to drive though.

TH350 was certainly an option in VC 5 litre Commodores.

Interesting story this one. My father work at Holden for near on 40 years in testing and development engineering and worked with and knows Wal & Leo but sadly a lot of the guys from that time have since passed away. I do hope the car is was it is a it will be an important part of Holden history now that they are closing up shop on manufacturing. I'm actually chasing a similar car from my childhood it was an ex design styling GMH car. A Tuxedo Black VC SLE V8 Manual that was used in the development of the VH (styling not mechanical). Dad bought it off the styling dept back in late 81 early 82 before they were about to throw it out. Dad fixed it up to VH SL/E standard rather than back to VC and then sold it. I'll post the full story here soon. I've never seen the car again nor has it popped up anywhere on the net. I suspect it's long gone now. Have you seen or heard of any other Tuxedo Black (non HDT) VH SL/E's getting around?
I'm surprised that your car survived. Dad told me that all experimental or prototype vehicles were scrapped after their purpose was served. Most didn't have tags so couldn't be registered anyway. Pre production and early evaluation vehicles often survived and were sold to staff or dealers but they had run the assembly line and were tagged.
Are you going to restore or leave as a survivor car?
Cheers
