Hi I have just installed a crow cam in my 186 and also crow timing gears .I have alighned the 2 dots on the crow gears tdc wich was for standard the engine runs ok but I have relised now on the card with the cam it is to be advanced by 5 degrees does this mean I have to remove the came from the key it is on or just pull it out a bit and move it around to the 5 degrees advanced dot so that the 5 degree cam gear dot will line up with the dot on the crank now at tdc insted of the 2 standard dots being lined up like it is at the moment on the crank and cam gears or am I able to move the didstrbuter around a bit more to compensate for it if any of this makes sence Hahahah but I have noticed moving the dizzy around takes the timing marks away from the timing cover marks by about 2cm or more

Does the Crow timing gears have multiple keyways on the crank and/or cam gears? That is the only way you normally retard or advance cam timing on a red 6. If the gears don't have the extra keyways then you are stuck with it as is.

See the attached, see the different keyways on the crank gear? They are marked where you put them to advance or retard the cam timing.

Looking at pics of a new Crow timing gear set for the Holden 186 you have to remove the crank timing gear and move it so the appropriately marked (+ or -) keyway is aligned with and installed onto the woodruff key and also ensure the matching timing dot is aligned with the dot on the cam gear.
