Hi.
I am after information on engine numbers. . I’m restoring a HG Ute that was a factory v8 but unsure if it was a 253 or 308.
The motor I have has numbers O5 7 and 253H29670 stamped on it
Plus another motor has M139 stamped on the block near the water pump.
I would love a fact sheet of page I could research the numbers

253H29670 is OK for a HG but no chance of telling if it could be original to the car without all other vehicle details. Date codes are never stamped into blocks so will not be original.

253 was the standard engine in most V8 HG models and 308 will be very rare in a ute especially if it is a Belmont. You'll know if it was column shift and you'll also know if it was a 4spd manual both by the floor tunnel. Picking between standard 3spd manual and optional Trimatic auto will be hard as they will share the same tunnel and speedo cable holes, however there should be a kickdown bracket there on the firewall for the Trimatic.
If it was a 4spd manual then you'll know if it was a 253 or 308 by the rear floor over the diff as a 308 4spd will have had a Salisbury rear axle.
The tough one to pick will be if factory auto as both 253 and 308 were column auto and both ran a banjo rear axle.
