Hi members, I have installed a fully serviced Trimatic Transmission with a high stall converter to my HR after I rebuilt the 186 with cam and webers etc, when I put into a gear the motor stalls, could this be as I may need a vacuum check valve on the manifold as the vacuum gauge needle is up and down when motor is running?

This is more to do with running Webers plus a performance camshaft added to an auto trans.

Your problem will be getting the idle mixture adjusted well enough to get a good manifold vacuum at idle.

What are your cam specs ?

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

When GMH released HT they fitted all HT 186 with the 186S camshaft which is why the HT 186 is rated for 5hp more. When they fitted Trimatic though they dropped the camshaft on 186 auto back to the old HK camshaft as the Trimatic didn't like the bigger cam. I think you can buy stuff today to overcome this a bit but as Dr Terry says the combination of the Webers and a decent camshaft will still be an issue with a Trimatic.
