Hey guys, Ive got a tidy HZ wagon with a warm 253, trimatic and 3.08 open diff. It is a bit slow but sounds sweet, and I have a few grand to put into it and I'm caught between the decision of dropping a 308/t350 or keeping the 253 as it has only done 15,000 and putting a supra 5speed and uping the diff ratio, say to 3.55 or something???? Would the 5speed and diff have noticeable increase in acceleration??? Any comments??

Keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used the supra 5 speed with the same expectations but found with my 3.36 diff first and second went nowhere with the supra box, 3.08 would be good but not low enough to help the acceleration of a 253. in the end i went 308, supra, 2.78. goes hard off th

yeah way too many rpm. (thats why i went 278) then a big rpm drop into 3rd. There is a close ratio supra box, they are rare but have a taller first and second. they work well with a 336 and no 3rd gear lag...perfect for a 253.

Sweet, thanks Tony. As it is my daily driver I would rather put the 5spd in it and work on something with a better power to weight ratio.

Go on to the Dellow web site and they have the ratios listed for you to compare. A W58 is pick of the bunch but hard to get and the W55 is what people have that rev their ring off. Dellow will have a six month or more waiting list for W58 and try and flog
