Hi guys,


Does anybody know why a tacho in a HX GTS would read way to low. I have tried two different tacho's both original and have tried both the 6 and the 8 cylinder settings to no avail.


Is it possible that I am overlooking something. I am now running VL electronic but had the problem before changing to the new dizzy and coil.


Any ideas would be appreciated.

Try connecting up a portable 'tune-up' style tacho, to eliminate any other wierd possibilities. As an aside, did you bypass the in harness resistor when you fitted the 12V coil?

Firstly, thanks for your response. No I didnot bypass the harness resistor as I am unsure where it is. Do you know what it looks like and where aboutis it is located?

As Byron said check with an aftermarket test type tacho & compare readings.


I,ve seen this problem before when guys fit blue ignition to red motors, however I,ve done this conversion dozens of times & had no trouble & you

Dr Terry. Found a wierd situation the other day on this exact subject. My HZ 1-tonner (ambulance pack) is a factory 308/TH400. It's currently got an aftermarket 12V coil with ballast resistor. Whoever installed it left the yellow wire on the coil, and ran

The resistor wire is usually a fairly thick pink one. Unlike Dr. Terry I prefer to not use a relay because in my opinion it is another thing to go wrong and strand you. In situations like where you are fitting spotlights and have to run through the dipswi
